Greetings! I know that we can easily purchase butter whenever we want it, but I feel like it is always good to know how to make something yourself. One of the reasons I make my own butter for eating from time to time is because we buy heavy whipping cream once a week when we do our milk run at our local Amish market. The cream and milk we purchase is as local as we can get it and it is not ultra pasturized and it is from cows that are not treated with antibiotics or RBGH. That is important. As a result, the cream may not last as long. We may have weeks where we use less than others, but instead of tossing what we would consider spoiled cream, we use it to make butter.
I have started off with just a little over a pint of heavy cream and put it in the mixer with the whip attachment. In about 10 minutes you will have beautiful, homemade butter! This is the perfect thing to make if you are having friends over for brunch or if you want to take a basket of goodies to a neighbor. How great would it be to say the creamery butter is homemade?!
I hope you will give this a try, the coming holidays are the perfect opportunity to WOW your guests with this indulgent yet simple spread!
I hope you try this and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating!

Yes I do. I spend a lot of time editing my videos. I don't however cut very much out of them because I find it is important to show people every step as it happens so that they know exactly how something should be at every step.

I absolutely love how you said not to save it for a special occasion but instead do it for your family because that's how you make memories. I use my grandmother's china every day because it makes me fondly remember her at every meal. I have other china for the holidays.

Thank you so much for showing us how to get back to the basics! My Mom tells us stories of how they used to make butter in the large container on their front porch! I can't wait to teach my kids how to make butter together! We will make it with the homemade bread that you taught us how to make! I love these memories and getting back to the basics!!! I can't thank you enough for all you have done and how it has brought our family even closer!!! Love you all!!!

I even used half and half one time! I had no butter and dinner was almost done, and with some new, yummy rolls in the oven I panicked, so in went the half and half, said a prayer, and started mixing with my (high powered) hand mixer. It turned out fantastic! I didn't mention it, and everyone mentioned how creamy and good the butter tasted. I was so thrilled. I love to try to do uncommon things in the kitchen, and this one is one of my favorites. Great Video, Thank you for the reminder.

I love your videos! Even the length. You give wonderful step by step instructions and clarify the fine points. I love learning the forgotten or soon to be forgotten skills to pass on to my kids. I think that convenience has started to rot our society, and learning the "simple" skills makes us slow down and enjoy life and the important things. Much love and respect.

Butter is butter. This is just a way to make it yourself and know where it came from. In my opinion it is better to eat butter because margarine is nothing but poison. From research I can tell you that margarine is literally just 1 molecule away from being plastic.

I see this video was made several years ago but I'm just seeing it tonight! But ... Thank you! I began buying butter many years ago after a friend convinced me that " margarine was only one molecule away from the container it came in!! ". I made some butter many years ago when we rented from a dairy farmer who gave me some fresh cream. I did the fruit jar method ... So I never did it again! Lol I have two butter bells that I love!! They're always a topic of conversation when someone (usually men!) sees them the first time! But now that I have seen the mixer process or food processor, I think I can do it again! Thank you!

Thank you! I am very impressed, and as old as I am I was not aware that this could be done. Many years ago when I was a child my grandmother used to mix up a batch of margarine and add food coloring. But then learned the dangers of the chemicals. Thus we ate only butter. But I digress. I love this video and will try my hand at making butter. I have no Kitchen Aid (wish I did) but I have a food processor, hand mixer and blender. Thanks again❤

Thank you. This video is several years old. I no longer recommend Kitchenaid. Mine was a piece of garbage and their customer service is also awful. If you are going to make an investment in your kitchen I recommend the mixer I use now, which is a Bosch Universal Plus mixer. It is a beast in the kitchen. Unlike Kitchenaid. Which will peter out on you after a few years.

I was wondering about that... I have an older model from the 80's that I still use - making heavy cookie dough, cake batter, anything etc.. love it. I have heard that the Kitchenade is breaking due to them using "Plastic" gears instead of metal ones as in the older models... they can't hold up. I paid $80 for their hand-mixer and guess what - it fell apart not long after purchasing... so very disappointed... I wouldn't recommend the new ones either - stand or hand held

I believe your mixer would be fine. I get my whipping cream from a local farm. It is at least 35% if not more. It is very thick and I can usually extract a very thick spoonful of what could be considered double cream from the top of each pint.

You can use the salt of your choice. I use pink salt because it is a natural mineral salt that is not adulterated. I do not use sea salt any longer because of the corexit in the ocean from the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico as well as the Fukushima disaster and radiation in the water. You need to make the choice that is best for you should you choose to make butter.
