Im first generation Portuguese American. My Tia Maria was born and raised just outside of Ponta delgada in Sao Miguel on the Azores islands and she used to make this all the time when I was a kid and serve it with some fresh batatas fritas!! It was amazing! Thank you for brining me back to my childhood!

I just came back from Sao Miguel on vacation and I had to find a legit recipe for this dish. It was my favourite thing there, and I’m excited to cook it tonight!

Can I use regular cooking wine for this recipe
@kend.7287Ай бұрын
I prefer to shell the shrimp and simmer them in the wine and chicken broth and seperate them so it is easier to eat and you still get the flavor from the shells !

Hi. Can I use precooked shrimp?
@pmoura47584 жыл бұрын
Yes
@cindesalazar78843 жыл бұрын
I don't think precooked would taste as fresh, and the flavors would soak into the shrimp.
@diamaria31342 жыл бұрын
Yes but you would need to make your sauce first then add the cooked shrimp when the sauce is cooked, it just needs to sit in the hot sauce covered for a 5-10 minutes but turn your burner off .

Fun fact- the true and accurate definition for Portuguese “Explorers” is “colonizers”. Cabo Verde wasn’t “discovered”. These and many another countries in Africa had their resources stripped, they were forced to speak their language and into slavery. I say all that too say, I’m from NB and this recipe came out delish. But let’s not paint the story of Portuguese people “discovering” anything in Africa when they were there for unGodly acts, not looking for spices!
@dustytheduster2 жыл бұрын
Thank God they did or else we wouldn't have all this wonderful portuguese food!

You should get your history straight before coming on here with you uneducated self hate. The recorded history of Cape Verde begins with Portuguese discovery in 1456. That means that the “Portuguese” discovered Cape Verde. Period. Take your hate talk and your slave mentality elsewhere as this is a cooking segment. You’re a very sad person.

Fun fact: Almost every single culture on earth has conquered one another at some point in time, even African tribes within African nations. The sooner people realize this and quit being victims of “colonizations”, the sooner they can get on with their life.

Isn't that way too long to cook Shrimp ?
@cindesalazar78843 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. Her fire should have been hotter, but I think because of filming, she was forced to use the portable burner, which took longer to cook the shrimp.
