Hey! Do you happen to have a tutorial on how to paint these horns? Thanks for the amazing video! Very helpful!
@HeyPatch6 жыл бұрын
No I don’t but that’s a great idea, I’ll have to make one. How I’d do it, first do a base coat of PVA, this will make em’ stronger and give them a better finish when painted. Wait until the PVA is totally dry and then go for your base colour (this should be the darker of the colours your using) then once thats dry shooed a lighter highlight colour and “dry brush” the horns with that colour, you can repeat the “dribrushing” with lighter colours each time until you get the look you want. Best of luck with your paint job, I’m sure it’ll look great 👍 and thanks for the comment 😁

You mean like curly ram horns? Yeah it should be relatively easy. Follow the steps in the video until you get to the part where you’re glueing the rings together, I’d start with the pointy bits , (sharp end of the horn) and work my way down from there in the same way I did in the video, glueing each segment in at an angle but this time rotating each segment slightly to get the twist. You might have to experiment a bit but I think it should work. Let me know how it goes, good luck and happy making. 😁👍

I can at least say one reason a horn video would be extra popular: Have been trying to find nice horns for Puck (A Midsummer Night's Dream) and practically all the horns I could get were "demonic" black or red. When all you want is a nice little trickster jester guy who is somewhere between a satyr and a forest fairy, those "alluring" "demonic" horns are just wrong and vulgar. (To my mind, if I should make Ole Nick himself, his horns would still be a natural ivory-to-earth-brown, not black or red). So even for someone like me who is not a real cosplayer, just *very* enthusiastic about halloween and carnaval ("fastelavn", where I come from), horns are something you end up having to make yourself. Well - from one frustrated fancy-dress enthusiast I can just say thank you for your thorough and simple explanation. I think I can do this. **** Actually, a video on how best to make them stick somewhere on your head without being glued to your hair would be quite welcome.

would it be easier to make the smallest ring first and then just eye it around the outside , cut and glue a bigger one to it?
@HeyPatch3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you could totally do it that way, but you’d have to repeat the steps “wrap it around the outside then cut it the glue it” a lot of times. The method in the video makes an identical set ( 2 horns) and you do all the cutting in the same step. But you can make em’ in whatever way you find easiest 👍

I have a couple of things I wanna say... 1st:I loved this video. It was very helpful, and it was amazing. I also loved how imperfect it was, again, amazing! 2nd: I have a question...I don't have any hot glue, and none of that stuff....Is there a way I can use tape to put it together? I have everything else I need, just not the hot glue... I apologize if this question is stupid, or bothers you!!
@HeyPatch4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words, I’m glad you liked the video and found it helpful. There is no such thing as a stupid question, so let’s try and figure this out. you could use super glue.. but be careful if you do, super glue is especially good at glueing stuff to your fingers or even your fingers to each other 😅. Also if you do use super glue do it somewhere well ventilated, the fumes can be pretty bad. To be honest tape might be your best bet. I’d say masking tape would be best (because it’s easiest to paint on top of) duck tape would probably work but it’s hard to paint on and standard clear scotch tape will be the most difficult, I think but it might work. Whatever tape you have to hand give it a go. Just follow the steps in the video but use tape instead of hotglue and it should work out. If you need to make it stronger try wrapping the entire horn in tape, it’ll also give it a cool new look. Hope this helps, Good luck and happy making.👍

I’d say hot glue would be best, fill the open end of the horn with a circle of cardboard then hot glue it to the headband for extra strength you could hot glue another circle of card underneath the headband (sandwiching the horn to the headband) also for stability I’d go for a wider head band and not a narrow one. I’m sure you’ll figure something out that works for you. Good luck and happy making 👍

Hi, really nice technique for making horns! I've made some myself using kitchen towel rolls and I've kinda eyeballed the measurements lol Though, do you have any idea how we can make the horns smooth? I've tried papier-mache, clay and putty but they don't turn out so well... Anyway, awesome work, keep it up! :)

Thanks man, If ya want smooth horns using the technique in the video I’d suggest using thinner card, like cereal box card or even construction paper, then do some papier-mâché on it, wait for it to dry and sand it down with some 80 grit sandpaper the do another coat of papier-mâché. Keep doing it getting finer with the sandpaper each time (80-120-240). Hope that helps 👍
