One of the few things you can do to actually speed up the process is to double wrap the wire. Either by doubling the wire or using two spools. Doubling the wire spaces the rings so when you cut them they are open. Normally you have to close half the rings and open then other half, double spacing means you just have to close half. When you cut rings use end nippers, and score the rings rather than cutting them through. If you cut them then the ends look like >< and the rings will fall apart, if you score and then break them then there will be small flats that will prevent that. Dremmel cut off wheels (the emery ones) work but it takes a lot of practice to allow the tool to do the cutting so you don't use two or three wheels for a foot of coil. Use a wooden dowel as support when you use a dremmel and with practice you can cut a few feet of coil with a single emery wheel.

have you thought of using a dremmel cut off wheel where you would use it like a table saw to cut the coil of wire along the length ?

Good video. This is the best ring winding setup I've found so far on youtube. I may have to copy yours unless I locate a better design.

How do you cut stainless steel rings, I tried cutting with a saw but it ate up my blade .
@BenTu5785 жыл бұрын
I have not tried to cut the stainless steel. I did buy a Ringinator and it worked great on galvanized steel. It is supposed to be good for SS as well. What are you using to cut your rings?

what kind of wire is good for making chainmail armor? I was told that 16 gauge is best thickness for it but I have also heard that 17 gauge is good? idk how much it differs from each other but I want kind of a thick armor to make it historically accurate.

Go for 14 gauge steel; it's sold in most hardware retailers for about $32/one-fourth-mile, and is fairly accurate in terms of thickness :p
