Documenting grandmothers cooking traditional foods is such a good idea. Some TV producer should make a show like the BBC's Pasta Grannies, only with grannies from all over the world cooking the foods from their culture which they have made their whole lives. I would watch that!

Yes thats a great Idea ! I wish I had saved MY GRAND MOTHER’S DISHES 😭😭😭 … please share maybe our grand mothers made some dishes in COMMON 🙏🙏🙏🥰 so I can remember my Grandmother’s Dishes , which she made with So much Love ! I miss you Nanny ♥️🥰💋 she passed away when I was 15 years old !! I was a teenager and too “SMART” to learn and pay attention then 😭

I made this recipe this past fall, it came out fantastic. My mother, who already really likes mustard greens, just kept raving about it for weeks. Lol, that was so cute. when your grandmother said, "mission accomplished" at the end.

I loved seeing your mom and grandma. So cute! Reminds me of watching my mom and grandma making ham choy as well. I don’t recal them using ginger or blanching the Chinese mustard greens beforehand. I’ll have to ask my mom to show me how she makes it the next time she visits.

Emelia Heck, I have never seen it done with ginger! I mean you'd want the mustard green flavor/aroma, one would assume the ginger's strong fragrance would overpower the mild bouquet of the mustard green! But then again, who am I to say one way or another... let me leave it with... to each its own.

Was a great story and a recipe I need to try. Lots of stuff like this has been lost to time. My wife's grandma is 90 and cans and cooks a lot all her life. 😊

This reminds me si much of my mother in law and her haam choi! She tells me how to do it but nothing measured. seeing it made at least I have a visual. I love the Macdonald sugar part. Just like my parents and my in laws you don’t waste anything and you use up everything. It is their upbringing and is lovable! We should learn from them on how to live a greener life!

Hi Jen, you don't rinse it off, but you do add liquid to create a brine! Check out the link in the description box for the full recipe!
