How to Make Clothes in The Sims 4? | Merging Meshes: Easy & Simple Dress Mesh Tutorial for Beginners

Ever wondered how all these amazing creators make their own clothes in The Sims 4? In this video, I will show you how to make a simple dress mesh by merging two meshes together. I merged a base game swimsuit with a Get Together skirt to make a cute mini dress. In theory, this can be done using any premade mesh, but you need to pay attention to cut numbers which I do NOT get into in this video. You should be safe using different swimsuits and SHORT skirts or short shorts.
Also, always make sure you always credit EA if you're using their meshes. I explain this in a video. If you want to use other creator's meshes, please make sure they allow this with their mesh. If the creator does not allow this, please respect them and do not use their meshes.

Sorry if someone has already commented this, but I don't see it so I'll mention it here: Blender has a "merge by distance" feature in Mesh > Clean Up that will merge all vertices that are within a certain range of each other! This makes the joining process much faster!

It really sucks that TS4 requires the player to buy a DLC pack in order to use CC if the person making the CC started with something from a DLC...there are clothes that have nothing to do with any DLC but would be a lot easier to make using the DLC's mesh than merging together a bunch of basegame meshes or making a mesh from scratch. (Say for example I wanted to make a specific long sleeved kimono with an obi to look like one worn by an anime character. There's a sleeveless formal-wear outfit in (Edit: City Living, not Snowy Escape) that already has an obi, but if I wanted people who haven't bought Snowy Escape to be allowed to download it and have their Sims cosplay that character I would have to spend a lot more effort sculpting an obi from scratch because as far as I know there aren't any in the basegame. And then what happens if I do sculpt an obi from scratch but some EA moderator or automatic system thinks I used a Snowy Escape mesh and penalizes me for not restricting that piece of CC?) Obviously it wouldn't be right to make a free CC pack that was the exact CAS items from a DLC, but when it's something like what you made here where it looks nothing like the original skirt and isn't supposed to, it feels mean to be forced to apply that restriction.

Hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial- and I have a question. I'm a bit confused on whether this would work if you didn't have Get Together. Since you exported the combined mesh as a separate blender file, wouldn't that mean that downloading the file to a computer would come with all the structure and you wouldn't need Get Together to have the details on how the skirt works? Sorry I don't quite know how to explain my question- but like - since you've created a new mesh blender file, I don't see why the original skirt is required to be part of the game that's using this piece of CC. Or is this more of just an EA requirement thing? Sorry about my wording.

hi! if you want to merge non-ea meshes (for me, its for personal use) how do you get them to appear in sims 4 studio? do you just put the package file into your mods folder or is there something else you need to do?

I followed the tutorial except I combined two outfits together. When I try to import it I get this error message. "One or more of your meshes requires a UV map but does not have one." not sure what to do here.

i'm not sure it would translate into studio/the game but i would assume the texture would just be the lace pattern with no background behind it, like a png.

Just wanted to ask that does this work with any version of Blender or do you have to use a certain version it? I have the 2.91 version of Blender on my pc already so I need to know if I have to download an older version of it. I also want to thank you for all these cc making tutorials! I've never even used cc on my game before so these tutorials have been really helpful

Great point! I don't think Sims 4 Studio is compatible with newer versions. I use 2.7 so I can say that one works for sure.

You're not doing anything wrong! If it's orange that just means everything is selected and if it's black it means it is not selected. You can select/deselect all by pressing "A" on the keyboard. So, if it's orange, just press A!

Yes, but you have to keep in mind the tri count of the mesh, and that you're working with tris (triangles) NOT quads.

@@simsina I encountered a problem, I wanted to add DLC pack requirement but it just says "no base game resourses found". Though the base mesh and texture I use were from Discover University... is there a way to manually add DLC pack requirement?

@@lookatmyright could be a bug with S4S. I remember earlier this year some people having similar issues. I don't know how to fix it :/ except maybe trying a whole new package file and importing mesh and texture to a new file.
