i've had much better results with cotton balls. they look more fluffy and cloud like than the soap. but this is still a good technique.

Did you soak the cotton balls first, I imagine they hold a few bubbles, curious how you did them 😊

this is super helpful! Definitely going to give this a go when i next cast. if i prep the soap first and leave it over time, will this affect the end result? E.g nuke the soap a day beforehand so i have it ready to go?

as long as you shape it while it is still warm you definitely can do it ahead of time. it won't shrink back down when it cools, but it's only pliable when warm.

Wouldn’t the soap throw off the balance of the dice considerably?

Not really. It's incredibly light weight, and most rpg dice are not perfectly balanced. The only place perfectly balanced dice really exist or are necessary is Las Vegas. Any dice you get (even from chessex) are a little imperfect.

I'm very late but if you're worried about balance you could try to cast the soap in a breakable mold with 2 halves to get the soap out, and then pour in some white resin and use those instead

I just used generic bars of soap i bought in bulk. The only thing I can think of that would matter is that it's a solid bar of soap and white.
