In this video I show you step by step how I make my concrete vessels for my candles. My customers LOVE concrete candles. Not only are they so unique, but they’re reusable. We try to use as many products in our studio that are environmentally friendly, and concrete, while super cool, is not biodegradable SO we have a REFILL PROGRAM that has been utilized by many of our customers where they can reuse their concrete vessels over and over while also having fun “making” their own candles. Learn how to make your own concrete vessels start to finish, including how to seal them so the wax or fragrance oils don’t seep through.

Great video! You’ve convinced me to start water bathing lol. Also, I love how you don’t sweat the small things. I’m a bit of a perfectionist which is probably why I drive myself crazy most days. I literally measure everything with a scale. Cement, water, and pigment. I like your method way better. I’m going to give it a try.

Honestly, it’s hit or miss depending on the consistency it’s at when you spray it. Too much settling and the spray is ineffective, still loose enough and it works like a charm. @brewmillcandlecompany Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. I use wooden wicks from Wooden Wick Company (now Makesy). The ones I use in the ovals are .5 Booster Crackling .625 with C3 Soy. But honestly, it’s best you test with your wax and your fragrance oil, as each wick differs with different wax and FO. I started with a tester package from WW, that came with multiple sizes and I tested each one. Good luck on your journey.

I’m considering starting a small candle business here on Oahu. Just a side hustle at craft fairs. I love these vessels & definitely want them in my offerings. I figured I’d make the vessels first before starting the candles. No idea how many I should make, but I’ll figure it out. I like the look of wooden wicks, but I had a bad experience with the ones I bought. They were under wicked & I only got a few hours of use & most of the wax is still in the jar. Very disappointing! I understand the importance of testing, but if you don’t mind sharing what size you use. I’m sure I’ll use a different wax. Just looking for a starting point. Thanks 🎃
@sageeule
@sageeule Жыл бұрын
In my experience, the wooden wicks have also been as issue for me, but your idea of making the vessils BEFORE the candles is very wise. It is SO SO SO SO SOOOO important we test, test, test, test again before actually selling it. When I was first starting out, I poured a candle into one of my vessils, filled it with dried herbs and flowers (thanks pinterest) Needless to say, I had a literal explosion bomb on my coffee table. Cant get rid of that fire damage, and I had been watching it for hours before it erupted. Vessils need to be tested meticuously, and candles are dangerous enough on their own without "Pretty kindling" fire bombs and shattering concrete. hehehe. fun times.

Italian Wedding Soup OR Peasoup? 🤣🤣 My chicken soup is like stew, broth is like water, peasoup is sludge, chowder is thicker than pancake mix, which can be runny or thick as well, crepes are very runny, buttermilk is super thick. I don’t use much of this, I know what consistency I need from the many many many vessels I’ve made, describing it to a viewer is easiest by saying “pancake mix”, I think “soup” would confuse too many people 🤷‍♀️😊

Thank you for sharing all of the information on concrete molds I’m starting to switch over to that in my candle business I have a question because I have been water bathing for 24 hours like you show in your video. But after it dries because I’m using color pigment from direct colors I noticed there’s like a white powder film on the outside of the jars I’ve been using tapwater to soak my jars in after they’re done this last batch that I’m doing I’m using filtered water To see if that makes a difference do you ever run into that issue where it looks like a white powder film is on your jar after you water bath it on colored concrete jars

I saw you wash the mold with soap water, Is that all to remove the stain of color to the mold??
@brewmillcandlecompany
@brewmillcandlecompany 2 жыл бұрын
That is to remove the Cementall residue. The chemicals in Cementall are caustic and if left on the silicone mold, will eat away at it. I pay a lot of money for my molds and washing them with soap and warm water after every single use, they’ll last a much longer time than if I just leave them.

Do you work on "the eye" when mixing? I noticed you do not measure the water/cement amount in equal 4/1 parts? - also could you let us know: do you wear a security mask when handeling cement and the other powder "chemicals" - I am concerned about inhaling it as it naturally will "dust" around when pouring/mixing ....

Do you seal your soap dishes to make them waterproof? I have tried the sealer/preserver from earth safe finishes but the end result is sooo tacky no matter what you do (other reviews note this too). I've tried to add an additional matte spray sealer on top of the preserver to get rid of the tackyness but im not super pleased with this either. Now I'm wondering, does waterproofing the concrete soap dishes even matter?

how environmentally friendly is the cement?
@brewmillcandlecompany
@brewmillcandlecompany Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question, this is a great one. The environmental advantages to using Cementall, a hydraulic cement, is to reduce our carbon footprint and lower environmental impact. Production of Rapid Set cement emits far less CO2 than portland cement, thus making it a much better option for this purpose. The cement industry is one of the main producers of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas. Concrete causes damage to the most fertile layer of the earth, the topsoil, which in the application I use it, it’s intended use is not touching the Earth such as a driveway, sidewalk, foundation etc. Recycled cement is used in multiple applications such as being ground down and used as gravel etc, but to reduce my vessels from landing in landfills we offer a Refill Program. You can find our video on our channel here about that. I do all I can to help my customers understand the benefits of keeping a vessel from a candle they purchase from me. Here’s an interesting article I’ll share from the area I operate in you might find interesting. www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6069639
