If you spray a fine mist of 91-99% alcohol on any bubbles while the stone is wet, they will pop all at once and give you a very clean casting.

Hola Orlando yo soy de colombia, al inicio a mi me pasaba igual y lo que debes hacer es impermeabilizar el concreto, en colombia uso él sika látex lo adiciono al agua con el que preparo el concreto, el problema que yo tengo es que se me fracturan los contenedores después de encender la vela a las 8 o 10 horas de uso, si a ti no te pasa esto y me puedes recomendar algo te lo agradecería

Hi there, thank you for this tutorial. I have a few questions that were not clear. You mentioned putting the concrete vessels into a water bath to “cure”. Is this necessary and why does it need to cure? Also, do you use a sealant inside these, prior to putting wax in them to make your candles? If so, what sealant do you prefer? Thanks again!

I waterbathe to slow the curing process. I seal both in and out with Rutlands. I have a video on that process.

@@Aaron84danielle because Cementall is a hydraulic cement which hardens when there is a chemical reaction between anhydrous cement powder with water and will crack if it dries too fast.

Hi there. I have a video about it in my collection, but basically I waterbathe all my vessels right out if the mold. This slows down the curing process to achieve maximum strength. Cementall cures HOT, and since we’re putting candle in it they burn HOT. Grout and mortar mixes tend to dry and crack under extreme heat when a vessel cures too fast. As I live in a dry climate I waterbathe for 24-48 hours, then allow dry cure for 7-14 days before sealing it. I want all the water that’s going to evaporate to be gone before I seal it, but I don’t want it to leave too fast.

I make lighter vessels with Titanium Dioxide, I believe you can accomplish a chalky look by allowing to dry without washing off “slippery” layer after the water bath but I can’t be certain.

Hi there, I use Cementall, and no they do not “have to” be waterbathed. But since the manufacturer states this product is “not recommended for high heat applications over 300F (149C)”, and we all know a flame from a candle can produce temps of 1830 F (1000 C), it is HIGHLY recommended to extend the manufacturers suggestion for water application during curing for optimum strength. Remember, this product was not designed for candles, so the recommended application process shouldn’t be taken verbatim. However, water curing IS recommended by manufacturer. I don’t skip this step. I’m not in a hurry and I like my vessels super durable so they can withstand not only the full use of the candle but I offer a refill program that many of my customers take advantage of, allows multiple uses out of each vessel without cracking from the heat exposure. So it’s up to you if you do it, you don’t “have to”.

I use Cementall. Cementall is a hydraulic cement. Hydraulic cement requires water to cure. Hydraulic cement hardens when there is a chemical reaction between anhydrous cement powder with water. Non Hydraulic cement does not require water to cure, it hardens when there is a reaction due to carbonation with the carbon dioxide which is naturally present in air. So if you're using Cementall, you need to cure it in water to start. I do 24 hours then over the next 7 days the rest of the water not used up dissipates until it is a solid vessel I can seal.

You do realize, cement dust is extremely toxic for lungs, right? Prolonged exposure to silica dust can cause irreparable damage to lungs. I'd suggest either wet sanding or using a spare room with no access to kids and always wear an industrial mask while doing so.
