Ingredients for 4 servings
1 onion
4 El (tbsp) oil
2 Tl (tsp) curry powder
0.25 tsp of cayenne pepper
3 tablespoons tomato paste
200 g (7 oz) ketchup
50-100 ml (1/4-1/2 cup) of naturally cloudy apple juice
2 tsp apple cider vinegar
salt
pepper
4 fine brewed sausages
Finely chop 1 onion and fry in 2 tablespoons of hot oil for 2 minutes. 1 tbsp Curry Powder and 1/4 tbsp Cayenne pepper with a little thinner. Stir in 3 tablespoons of tomato puree and sauté briefly.
Add 200 g of ketchup, 50+ ml of naturally cloudy apple juice and 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and bring to the boil. Be careful with the applejuice. You want it spicy, not too juicy. You can also replace some of the juice by water, in case you don´t want it more fruity but more liquid.
Puree the curry sauce with the cutting stick and season with salt and pepper.
Fry 4 fine, brewed sausages in a hot pan in 2 tbsp oil over medium heat for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Slice sausages, drizzle with the sauce and sprinkle with 1 / 2-1 Tl curry powder.

When ordering at a Wurst stall I personally go for one of the darker sausages, dark brown to black all over. Though they might be a bit hard on the outside, I like the slightly burned taste, for me it goes very well with the hot and sweetish Curry sauce. If not taking French Fries alongside, I always take a roll or slice of bread to get all of the delicious sauce. As Klas said: the most common street food around, though I sometimes switch between them and a Bratwurst with mustard - equally delicious.

Although "Curry Wurst" is fairly tasty, in my opinion, the BEST German "street food" was the curry "Schaschlik" that was ubiquitous (at least in the Munich area) in the early 60s (I haven't been in Germany for many years, so I don't know if it is still popular). I have searched everywhere I could think of to find how to make it, but have not found anything even remotely similar. It would be great if you could show how to make that type of "Schaschlik".

This is a pretty easy thing to make. Get a pork loin and some screwers, make the sauce. I just read this and personally I think a scotch bonnett would work well in the sauce. thehobbycook.blogspot.com/2011/08/german-street-food-greats-schaschlik.html

I know some people who add Maggi seasoning to curry sauce (for those who aren't familiar, Maggi is similar to soy sauce). Maggi gives it a nice extra layer of savory flavor, 10/10 recommend.
@carfvallrightsreservedwith6649
@carfvallrightsreservedwith6649 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. It's Maggi JUGO a browning sauce. Thicker than soy sauce and not near as salty. Use it in so many dishes can't even count. Perfect reference you made to it adding extra layer (depth) of savoryness.

Thought the story was that currywurst was 'invented' by soldiers of the British army based in Germany after WW2. Many British soldiers would have also served in India, hence knew about curry. They added curry sauce to the sausages found in Germany.

Nice Recipe. But please, throw that industrial ketchup away. A real curry-wurst-sauce is made with hacked tomatoes. But nice recipe anyways. I'm from the Ruhrgebiet (special location, where the curry wurst is very famous) and we would throw you out of the kitchen, if you would use Ketchup for a curry sauce. But nice video, still. ;-) thumbs up...

These videos are way too long, with too much talking. The best receipe videos have little talking - show us what you are doing, use graphics (text) to name items and amounts, and get the video done more quickly. You're trying to be an "on-air personality". Guess what? No one wants this on KZbin - that's why you don't have many subscribers even though you are one of the few German food channels. If someone wants an "on-air personality" they watch the FoodNetwork on TV.
