How to Make Cut Out Frames

In this video I show how to make Path of the Bee style cut out frames. I find these frames to be an excellent alternative to using rubber bands to hold brood comb in a frame. With care they are reusable. They do take considerable time to make so have them ready ahead of season.

Good idea Charley (hope I spelled your name right). I have used strings and rubber bands to hole honey comb cut-out but this is a better way. Thanks.

I am so lucky, your idea & videos are truly one of the “Hidden Gems” on KZbin. I have seen many DIY cut-out frames. This by far is the very best, I like the way once they are assembled, they are basically the width of a regular frame. I gave up on all the split frames for comb I have tried due to Real, “In the Field” problems I have encountered with them. I went back to a bare frame using #33 rubber bands. What a pain that is. 🤯. I Will probably make be making some of your frames in the next few weeks. I would also like to see your prints on the jig you used. (If you have a drawing of it, please feel free to email it to me & I’ll draw it up for you). I am a retired Machinist/CNC Programmer & appreciate a well thought-out and designed product. I make it a point to draw up all DIY parts I make for future reference using SketchUp, to create fully 3D prints. If you don’t mind, I will be drawing this up for my Bee Equipment Files also. Thanks Mike. I have been away from KZbin for about 18 months now for personal reasons and am just now getting back into it. The drawing for that jig is the jig itself. Curious as to why you don't just use a normal frame and rubberbands, seems faster, and you don't have to build a specialty frame? Just wondering? PS I love your videos, and will be building my own boxes this spring.

I have had many problems with rubber bands. They are too big, too little, rotten most of the time, allow the comb to lean side ways so that bees bridge frames together, etc. I have had excellent success using these hinged frames and wanted to share their construction with like minded individuals.
