Great video. Thank you for posting. I wonder whether you have tried the full software called Exposure? It has a wide variety of tools, with emulsion simulations and light leaks. I have had a lot of fun with it. I especially like the simulations of wet plate/Daguerreotype looks. Cheers from Canada.

Thank you! I have tried it in the past but didn’t get on with the user interface to be honest. I’ve spent many years using Adobe Lightroom and can use it with great ease and speed. So it puts me off learning a new software.

The best preset that I found for Lightroom are the Jamie Windsor one, so cheap in relationship to the cost ! Look it out mate ! Nice video anyway, love from Italy !

Hey Tom - many thanks for the video. quick question if you don't mind. do you still shoot with the Pentax 645N? Currently shooting on a Nikon Z6ii and was considering trying my hand out with film photography for the first time. TBH, my shoots are mainly shared with family and friends via social media. Have not to date printed out any images. Would you say considering that, that it might be best to just learn more as per this video, on how to make my digital images more film like? Thanks in advance for any guidance. Keep the great content coming!
@Tom-Humble3 жыл бұрын
Hey 👋 I don’t use the Pentax 645n anymore as for me it felt too much like a digital camera and I wanted a more analog experience. I still edit all of my images to look like film. Whether it’s for family stuff or professional wedding work. If you like the look of film there’s nothing wrong with making your digital images look like film. With that being said, although you can get pretty close, you definitely can’t match the look of real film. And on top of if that you can’t match the feel that of shooting film. There’s just something about it that makes you connect more to the images you’re creating and that’s why I often opt for film over digital for personal projects.
@graffigdesign89773 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, first off, many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Appreciate you are probably busy at the moment with wedding photography etc. Funny you should mention the 'digital' look to the Pentax 645n. The more I researched the camera and sample images last night, the more that was my conclusion as well. The Bronica etrs images looked a little digital like as well. I'm slightly intimidated by the whole thing tbh. Last night I even ended up looking at adapting vintage lenses for old my X-Pro 1, coupled with Really Nice Images presets for Capture One or purchasing the Nikon F100 35mm and then being able to swap out the vintage lenses for my Z6ii via adapters. It appears I'm travelling down a rabbit hole of information etc and maybe making life too complicated :) Another quick question if you do not mind? Have you ever considered doing weekend workshops? You have a certain way of teaching via your videos that I find very easy to follow and understand. I'm up near Edinburgh, however, would certainly consider jumping on a train down south for such an opportunity. Anyway, once again, thank you so much for taking the time to respond, it's very much appreciated!
@Tom-Humble3 жыл бұрын
It’s something I’ve considered but I’m not sure there would be enough interest quite yet. Perhaps somewhere down the line but I’ll be certain to chat about it on the channel if I ever do run any workshops. Thanks for the kind words and for watching!

Do you think for GFX 50s getting Rokkor 58mm 1.2 MC is better than Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 ? Rokkor is very old 45yo vintage lens btw. Thanks !

I know a few people who shoot with the Minolta lens. Samples seem great but I prefer the rendering of the voigtlander lens.

Great video Tom! A really nice use of stock footage for those little title segments! Its funny that a lot of youtubers promote paid stock footage services but I almost never see stock footage getting used as good as this. Thanks for the helpful tips! I'm always looking for new ways to make my digital shots look like film ;) (switching to fuji soon). Also super stoked for the GFX and Voigtlander video, looks like an amazing combo! Going to enter your giveaway and hope to win because I dont have my 35mm slr anymore and would love to have one for the casual walkaround shots :)

Guys, the fastest and easiest way to get that look on your photos is just shooting film and dont letting it die!
@Tom-Humble4 жыл бұрын
Fabian Suárez I do shoot film. But I also shoot around 50 weddings a year usually and can’t justify the cost. So for me it’s important to be able to match my digital to film so I can shoot them side by side. Film is on the increase and is nowhere close to dying.

Thank you so much for the shout out dude, appreciate it. I have to say, it pained me to hear you recommend freepreset though, they’re killing the industry. I can work on these presets for months to get them just right and then within days of the release they’re listed online for free 😩

I feel you dude and I certainly struggled a bit with whether or not to mention it in the video. But I just wanted to be open and honest with my viewers and it’s something I have used in the past so I wanted to let people know it existed. I bought your light leaks as I knew the money would go to you. But yeah I can imagine it’s frustrating.
