As a child I stubbornly stared down a cooling plate of Betty Crocker’s congealing Au Gratin Scalloped Potatoes in protest for having been told to eat them. When my sister dresses her table with a lovingly crafted Dauphinoise Potatoes, layered with cheese, cream, garlic, seasonings, the freshness of the field comes to life in a wholesome dish. To this day, I still might give a pass on the Betty Crocker version, but I’d be happy to have a serving of homemade au gratin scalloped potatoes. :)

I've never had the courage to delve into cooking with durian, but now you have definitely sparked my interest. I've been aware of it for many years, and the nasty reputation for smelliness that it has. I may have encountered the spiky fruit and some durian flavored things for the first time with a Vietnamese friend, and I did not like the taste then. But, I know my taste has shifted on many things. I adapted pretty quickly to liking tripe in a "Super Bowl" of pho. And after many years, I came to also like the soft tendon that is in the same bowl... So, this will be an interesting adventure. Thanks for the beautiful video (again!)

it's scary to try new things sometimes. It was hard for me to eat tripe the first time but now I love it! Durian is a hit or miss outside of Asia because there are only a few varieties exported out of Asia. Sometimes you can find a really good one. I always encourage to give it more than one try, because they first one may not be great. But maybe you'll find a variety that you like 😊

Never had Durian but would be happy to try it. My childhood hate was grapefruit, but I absolutely love it now. ❤️

I can see that! I didn't appreciate the bitter flavors of grapefruit when I was small but I find the flavors refreshing now.

I was unable to over come the smell and gag reflex. It truly is an acquired taste.

Brussel sprouts are my durian fruit. The durian fruit looks similar to jackfruit inside and out.

Oh I can understand brussel sprouts! Yes, durian and jackfruit do look similar. The flavors are so different 😊

Have you ever tried jackfruit? My parents live in Costa Rica and I often eat it when I go to visit them.. Similar to durian without that strong unpleasant smell.. I ate a durian McFlurry when I was in Singapore.. I really like durian.

I thiiiink 🤔 it was fish! As a kid, i didn’t appreciate fish at all. It wasn’t a dislike though. It just wasn’t as exciting as teriyaki chicken or a basket of cheese sticks 🤙 Now as an adult, a good piece of salmon with lemon butter sauce makes my whole week!
@ThunThunChannel3 жыл бұрын
I think I was the same way, depending on the kind of fish and how it was prepared. That salmon with lemon butter sauce sounds delicious!

The aroma can also be similar to a rotting corpse. It tastes great though.

The ones I've smelled are like onions and garlic too. There are also some on the fruitier side
