Can you please suggest which mordant should be use to make the dye fix for longer period of time
@ta-daan9009 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question! So this depends on the fabric you will use. Before dyeing, it is important to check whether the item is ‘Prepared for Dyeing’ (PFD) or requires scouring to remove any grease, oil or starch. If you google, you'll find easily a big list of mordants (many natural mordants too). The most commonly used mordants are Alum (Potassium Aluminium Sulphate), Copper (Copper Sulphate), Tin (Stannous Chloride), and Iron (Ferrous Sulphate). These are used in various combinations for mordanting wool, silk and other protein fibres. The process of mordanting cotton, linen and other cellulose fibre for natural dyeing is different in that the mordants do not stick to the fibre. The cellulose fibre needs first to be soaked in a solution of tannin so that a mordant can attach itself to the tannin.

Beautiful technique!! Can I use a fabric if it’s not premordant? I’m not sure how to know if the fabric in the store is.

Hello, if you aren't sure we suggest you to mordant at home

Best video I’ve seen on this very straight forward. Will this work on cotton fabrics?? and is pre mordant just alum soaked fabric??
@ta-daan90092 жыл бұрын
ooooh thank you Jackson! 🤩 So happy to read your comment! Sure it will work on cotton fabric too, but expect a slightly different result. Also for the mordant depends on the fabric you decide to dye. ☺
