My refference of succes got really scewed over time. I wheighed over 340 pound. When I finally lost wheight, walking without pain was like a brand new experience. All of the sudden I found myself thinking.. can I.. Can I run? And I could. Then I realized I could jump. And fall without injury. And balance on one leg. Normal things was a succes for me. Being pain free was amazing. I did just find it a bit pathetic that I was celebrating these seemingly small things, things I that was neither hard nor impressive but, they really mattered to me. They fuled my motivation. Yesterday I did my first up against a wall handstand. I cannot explain how wild this is to me. I can have all my body wheight, on my hands now. Every time I do it, I get almost confused of how little force i have to use to get in the position. Like my mind still exepect this to be impossible. What im saying is, motivation can come in various forms. Im 34 and just got my body back. I feel like Im 20 again. And I wish I learned my self that the joy of realizing I can jump in the bed without me breaking, was something I would have allowed myself to feel earlier.

Just curious, did you have the excess weight since you remember yourself or did you remember being thinner before you started your journey? I have always been overweight (I'm about 250 pounds, of I'm not mistaken, plus, I don't have a scale rn) and I have no frame of reference because I've never been normal weight, I've been gaining weight despite eating quite little when I was a child, and as an adult I'm barely managing to lose it by going the extra mile, somehow, the small calorie deficit I create isn't enough for me even if calculations say otherwise, but then I get all of it back whenever I stop... And lose even more motivation, even though pain and being free from it is my main goal
@andytheguitarist4723 ай бұрын
@@atriyakoller136 First of all, mad respect for fighting and just doing your best and sympathy for your struggles. So, its a little complicated with me. I was very skinny up until my late teens. Trying not to go into to conveluted details, I ended up with some severe mental issues. I had to go on medicin. And I know many people think medcin is the devil itself, but I would absolutely not be here if they didnt give me something. I was drinking myself half to death each night at the age of 18, trying to get away from what was happening in my mind. The medicin worked but I gained a lot of wheight. I was depressed and hardley cared enough to be alive and that didnt exactly help me being motivated. I was always hungry. I was in pain, and tired of being alive. At my mid 20ties, I had done so much work on my mental health I was getting a lot better. Got a wonderful girlfriend, was finally feeling happy, but nothing i did was enough to combat the medicins effect. Cut to me being 30. Im married, im as happy as can be, but my body was breaking. Coincedentally a random blood sample showed the medicin I was taking had a rare but dangerous effect on me and I was forced to stop. Nothing else could replace it so I had to just hope all that work I did on my self had actually payed of. It had. Im still working hard as hell on it, but I didnt relapse totally and im doing great. When i stopped the medicin, I just stopped feeling any kind of hunger. Before i was in a constant feeling of starvation, now I forget to eat in 48 hours. I started focussing severely on getting the right food, casue i hardley felt any need to eat anymore. Getting the right nurishment became important. So yeah, thats what happened. Quite a bumpy ride gotta say and non of it would have been possible if that doctor by accident hadnt stumpled upon a random sideffect.

I know some see medication as the devil, but if I hadnt gotten some, I would absolutely not have been here today. It was that bad unfortunately. The sideeffect of a lot of medicin is it messes with your hunger and makes you gain wheight. Being in a state where i hardley cared if i lived or died, had been drinking myself half to death from the age of 18 trying to cope with my mind didnt exactly help me feel motivated to do anything about it either. Well, I started to work hard on my mental health. The medicin gave me enough of a break so that i actually could feel a bit of joy in life againg. And to cut the story short, at the age of 30 i was feeling great mentally. But my body was being messed up, And coincidantally, a random blood sample turned out to show i was starting to have a very problematic side effect from the medicin. Only soluation was to stop permantly. Which led me here. Stopping on medcin was fucking scary, not gonna lie, but i actually did it, and has been medicin free for 5 years now. I lost wheight in an insane rate. I went from feeling i was constantly starved, to forgetting to eat for 48 hours because i didnt feel hungry. So this whole thing was just quite a bumpy ride. I have the deepest respect for the struggle people go through. I was only able to do this, because of luck. If my mental health hadnt improved as much as it had, non of this would have been possible.

Old age is precisely where you'll see the most benefits of a life-long exercise routine. In addition working out for the present moment is why I work out myself. It feels good to inhabit a strong body that doesn't get you winded when rushing up a flight of stairs or that doesn't let you down when you are required to do something physical, or perhaps participate in sports or games. In general, it also feels good being fit as opposed to overweight or full of crippling pains and aches due to a sedentary lifestyle.

I don't know who said it but I think its true all the same "just because you can only do a little doesn't mean you shouldn't try". For me in regards to exercise (and later study) I had to "fake it to make it" to get going and the step I took was to drop the scheduled workout routine: 1 hour sessions in the gym, three times a week, weight training 3/4/5 sets withone set to close to failure etc. I found that I was left with, what I called "mental scaring" and became less and less motivated to go training over time. So instead I now train as a soldier does: I train to 60% of my capacity (this way I don't need a warm up), I do a little nearly everyday (10, 20 or 30 minutes about), I skip, I run, I swim and I do calestics focused on back, chest, legs and core (the rest takes care of itself) all at home or in the surrounding area (no gym). I have a routine but it's tricky to explain. It's easy on the body (not been injured in years now and I was very injury prone), it's time effecient (time is always tight), I can do it between other things (push-ups before dog walking, chin-ups before leaving work, squats during my lunch break etc.) and it works. The reality is though, as a routine it is slow to work, it takes time and investment to show on you but work it does, look at soldiers.

Thanks for your video Hampton, always love your vibes ❤ Yesterday I was talking to a friend and realized how much I reached in 2 years. I always was bad in having a routine of exercises (the most was once a week irregularly). I kinda like strenght exercises, but totally dislike aerobic. And I never functioned with revolutionary changes one day to another, it has to change little by little. But I needed to improve my health, and started trying to put exercises in my routine step by step. 🚶♀️➡️🚶♀️➡️🚶♀️➡️ Started kinda once a week regularly, only strenght... After a while, tried to improve a bit of my water intake... And little by little, one thing each time until each one got in the routine, trying to not feel too much guilty when I failed. Now, 2 years later, I exercise 3-4 times a week, strenght and aerobic (still don't like aerobic, but I can deal with it so much better). And one funny specific thing that I realized with my friend is that 2y ago, in my abdominal exercise (sit ups?) I seemed like a turtle upside down 🐢 even starting inclined and with someone pinning my feet down to be possible. And I just couldn't elevate more than my head. And nowadays, with just a light support of a fix object, I can do alone 3 sets with full range. It's little, it seems simple, but to me I had all my life that this exercise was impossible to me. So I love your message. Changing routine is not easy, but it's possible. Sometimes people want to change tomorrow and get frustrated, cuz it's demanding, you have little results or fail to comply. It's not immediate, you construct this through your life, and when you look back you see all the path you've gone. ❤❤❤

You can learn to find gratification in the experience of putting in effort! One of the things I figured out during therapy is that my ADHD means I have trouble forming habits and I have a very difficult time being motivated by long-term goals--like losing weight or getting fit. BUT--exercise produces dopamine and stimulants *while* you're doing it. And *challenging* yourself also produces natural stimulants. But we have to pay attention to that sensation to be motivated by it. If we're ruminating on something negative, it overshadows that positive sensation. So, to get myself moving, I had to stop thinking about goals. I had to recapture that sense of fun and novelty and challenge that I got from playing on the monkey bars as a kid. That kind of play was its own reward--I didn't swing on the monkey bars because someone made me do it or rewarded me for doing it, I did it because moving my body and figuring out what it could do was *fun.* Focus on the fun, the challenge, and it'll reduce the resistance a ton.

i really needed this right now, i’m going into my senior year and i’ve been so stuck up on not knowing what to work towards because everything seems so daunting, especially without support. even leaving the house has been daunting lately. i’ve always been fascinated with neuroscience and physics but careers in those fields have such an intense amount of work involved. this video’s inspired me to get back into my research for my first thesis. i want to put the work in and you’ve sparked a bit of hope that maybe one day it’ll work out :) i’ll make sure to mention you in a few years if i can publish it lol

"imagine Sisyphus smiling" - I think I am the happiest when I am busy, but I have been careful in figuring out what I enjoy and why. Some things I do may seem like a lot of effort for little reward, but for me, I get so much peace of mind while doing it, the effort itself becomes the reward. It may look like hard work, but it is hard work that I enjoy.

I feel like you'd skip up a mountain like a billy goat with a big smile on your face and motivating others as you go. To quote Dainer Made (a woodworking KZbin channel) it helps to "Just get Started" and I'm sure you'll start to enjoy yourself. Have a beautiful day

2:25 -40 When I get compromised I'm like that too. Recently I got injured and I find/catch myself in kind of a hedonic recuperation. Even though I am actualy extremely exhausted and slower on my (physical/tactile) tasks, I just try to focus on managing and keeping up, and fueling (body and soul) with good bang for buck. There's a mindset I have l that fears calories not being worth it while it hurts to move in all the ways I used to. 3:28 More recently, I figured out I can still jog/run with the help of a resistance band (It supplemented the strength to have a painless hand position.). This is with the memory of my sling falling apart and me sobbing while in a hurry to get somewhere.

Thanks for the advice brov. Is how your look at things. Once you get results, inspire's you to keep going. Bin there time and time again through out my life and just started trying again after little break. I like to view working out similar to video game skills that you level up, if you're not familiar with litRPG novels typically the main character gets transported to a video game or fantasy world and by doing certain actions they can level up skills like running, jumping, dodging, strength, balance, etc. And every time I realize I can run an extra minute longer, left 10 more pounds, do 5 more reps than I was able to do before I just imagine a little "Level Up!" Sound in my head because it's like I raised the relevant skill, I've thought about making a real life skill sheet with stats based on real life statistics but then I think about how I'd have to include a Charisma stat and I just don't want to have my low rizz in writing

I often wish there were apps that gameifies fitness this way. I know nerd fitness has written articles on it, but an actual app that helped you to connect your level of fitness with stats, skills, and progression would be amazing. Imagine playing an rpg on your phone that was driven this way. A game where you completed quests and progressed the game with the activities you do in real life and switched the in-game grind concept to real life. Instead of killing x amount of enemies for hours on end, you input that you did 10 push ups, 30 squats, bench pressed 200 lbs, and the game rewards you with character stats. accordingly. If you want to complete a quest where you travel a great distance in game, you have to walk, run, bike, skate, ect for a certain distance to progress it.

how do you achieve big or challenging things? momentum. one small domino at a time making the dominos gradually bigger is optional but that first domino cant reach the last one by itself there are hundreds of other dominos between them and the first small domino cant knock over the gigantic domino over by itself there are hundreds of other dominos, gradually increasing in size between them

I think about what you are talking about as an upward spiral. Its hard to push yourself up a spiral but it changes a lot in your life.
