I don't have depression, nor do i need to get in better shape. But recently I developed feelings for a girl and found myself in deep thoughts that kind of wore me down. That was the first time I decided to go for a walk just to relieve my mind from something and I must say I felt much better than I thought I would after an hour of walk and I decided to go for a walk every week. Now It's been more than a month, I talked to her about 3 weeks ago and she told me she has no such feelings about me and rather prefers to stay as friends. I can not complain about the answer i recieved but the thoughts in my mind keep taking their toll on me and so far, the best thing that can do to make myself feel better is to go for a walk in the evening, not be concerned about what to do today (cause it is pretty much over) and be grateful to what i already have. Sometimes the small things we are missing seem way bigger than what we already have.

Two Weeks ago i noticed i was putting on a bit of belly fat, so now i walk to and from Work. 3 miles each way. I realised i missed it so much, and it's warmed my heart to be doing this again. I regularly walk in my local Woods. I'm so lucky to have two Beautiful Woods five mins from my front Door. I love this subject so much because it’s such a simple thing that actually works. For most of human history we’ve walked most places. It gives us time to think and process the stimulus and emotion we have that have queued up. Since our mind is so engaged all the time nowadays, we build up this queue of feelings and things that have happened where we have given ourselves little time to process them I find when I let myself be bored (even though it’s painful) is where I have the most clarity. Thanks for making this video!

I started walking about an hour daily five years ago for my lower back issues. I was 28, living at my parents, struggling and depressed, with no clear ambitions. Since then, I have completely transformed my path in life. I feel much happier in my life now. I agree that it’s the contemplative nature of walking that helped me change. It took a lot of processing and planning to find my way forward. Walking is a great support for that process.

It sounds like you need to step back and evaluate what you want in life. Focus on the things that are most important to you(set a max of about 3) and make a plan on how to get to them one by one. I usually find it helpful to make a physical list(on a paper or poster) and stick it next to my bed so that I have a reminder of what I'm working towards each day. It's important not to give up, sometimes it takes weeks of work to just barely start seeing results(depending on what your goal is). Making sure to give yourself at least an hour each day where you shut off external stimuli and self reflect is essential as well. (whether that is stretching, meditation, or walking like in this video)

not knowing what life path to head towards is one of my HUGE problems. don't have to mental energy to find a path because i am just in survival mode.

Honestly, same. Hope you're starting to do better. 🤗

I find bike riding does similar as well. I think its the low level cardio over a longer period of time coupled with turning off the tech (no music etc) that gives the brain a chance to go into reflection mode. Double so if there is nature as the major immersion.

❤I love thinking about walking as a metaphor. So true ❤

Hampton. You are definitely motivating this 52 year old. What is your opinion of mini-steppers? Moving is moving, but do you think these pieces of equipment are really effective at helping to improve health. Thanks for your thoughts.

One of my professors in art school was doing his Master's thesis on walking as meditation, and he had done tens of thousands of steps walking to conduct his research and write his thesis as he walked.

Hampton lives in a beautiful part of the world. I'd walk more too if I had that scenery.

I couldnt afford a vehicle so i never got my license and walk everywhere. Its satisfying, but it got me to start thinking about what im doing with my life and looking at running and now i run a mile and a half 3-4 times a week.

Quit drinking a week ago. Started walking to work and back! 7.6 km in total! The good thing is that i'm not overweight. I even dropped 4 kilos. 75kg at 183cm. That's a good starting point for building strenght and get in shape at 50! Starting with home workouts! 👊💪

My running has been (I hope, temporarily) put on hold by an injury, but I can still walk, and do, every day. I decided that if I am unable to ever run again, as long as I can still walk, I can be perfectly satisfied with that. I love walking.

Dude, you are the first one who congratulates me to be still staying alive, and you have no idea how much that's mean to me. Even if that was just a statement to the general viewer.

During the first month of COVID it didn't go out of my apartment at all. My first walk then was to the nearest drug store which was in 15 mins. I got there out of breath and with sore knees. It scared me and I started walking at least every other day. Four years later walking is my favorite thing to do 😊 best time to be with myself ❤
