I am from Maharashtra, India amd we make a very similar dish called "Pithla". The recipe is almost the same except the tomatoes.. and we add green chillies and red chilli powder. We eat it with millet flatbread

You can use two cup of water for this recipe, it depends on your Shiro ( chickpea powder ) prepared you may need more water sometimes less water so you determine the consistency as you cook
