We are making fig jam! I began picking up the figs from Trabzon city and traveling 1000km back home to Istanbul with the traditional recipe I got from our relatives. I will show you how to cook in two ways: As a whole and as a marmalade.
You will also learn the trick to pick up figs and how different it can taste depending on where it grows.
I am sharing the fig jam episode before other Trabzon
trip episodes if you want to cook while it is the season.

Here in southern appalachia in the USA my ancestors have been making fig perserves for years. We never peel them. The peelings have the most vitamins. We love them on top of some good homemade buttermilk biscuits cut open with butter. With a good cup of coffee its absolutely delicious for breakfast. Some good memories from totally different cultures . Thanks for the video.

Omg, my dad makes it every year, I hate it even though I love figs in general!🤣🤣🙈 We live in Dalmatia, that is on the coast of Croatia 🇭🇷 and fig here’s also a traditional fruit and everything from it… my relatives from USA take kilos and kilos of dried figs with them when they go back home in the end of summer! Lots of love to beautiful Turkey 💖💖

For my birthday last year my kids cooked me a Turkish breakfast, and the only fig jam we could find in Vancouver (Canada), was a small, expensive jar from your country! It tasted exactly like the fig jam I remember from my childhood in South Africa 🇿🇦🌷

Today it is my turn to give you a tip: 😀 the way to peel a fig, is to take the little stem (where it was attached to the branch), and peel the skin down from the top. (like peelling a banana). This is what we do in South Africa anyway when we cook fig jam. Your jam must taste amazing, I can see the figs are superb quality. 🌷
@TFT
@TFT 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan! Thank you so much for the tip. 😊 They also told me that. But probably Bey case if the ripeness I couldn’t do it in most of it. When I asked my relative she said not every type opens like that 🙋🏻‍♀️ 🌺
