Fire in the Sky was a Do It Yourself project form beginning to end. Here Carl shows you how we made our flight stands! It's pretty easy and you can get all the components from LITKO.Net.
Here are links to the parts:
Large Vee Wings for fighters:
litko.net/collections/litko-g...
Extra Large Vee Wings for B-17s:
litko.net/collections/litko-g...
Magnets (I use the 6mmx1.5mm size):
www.ebay.com/itm/293630703557...
Plastic Bases:
litko.net/collections/litko-h...
Flight Pegs (I use 5, 3, and 1.5 inch):
litko.net/collections/flight-...
You can purchase the rules at Wargames vault here:

Nice video! Suggestions: print the squardron identifiers on Avery labels. It'll eliminate the cutting and pasting. Align all your magnets on the table with the proper polarity facing down Put a drop of superglue on the up face and press the rod onto the magnet and hold til set. This avoids fumbling the magnets & getting the glue on your fingers.

I know that this will rank as heresy with many gamers, but you did ask how we're managing our flights... we use the paper planes and ships sold by Topside Minis. For us the advantages of low cost, minimal preparation time and the prospect of seamlessly integrating "Fire at Sea" with "Fire in the Sky" outweigh the lack of aesthetic appeal when compared to miniatures. We laminate the planes and ships allowing us to identify flight leaders, aces etc with whiteboard marker pens and we use small die to indicate the altitude of the flights. The game works beautifully...even if it doesn't look as beautiful as the 3D miniatures!

I think that’s totally cool! You probably can play huge battles relatively cheaply

That looks really neat, and really robust. My own experience with magnets suggests epoxy is more robust than superglue. Superglue tends to be brittle and prone to failure after several "snap togethers" of those rare earth magnets. Epoxy is more forgiving in use, but has the drawback of lengthy curing times, often requiring a specialised "jig" to support the piece as it cures. A great set of rules, I look forward to more videos.

Fantastic, Great video and information. Like National Flags on my labels so thinking going magnetic there as well. Have lots of magnetic rubber sheets I use for basing and steel paper so not an issue.

This is more *assembling* flight stands rather than *making* them

Print the flight stand labels onto label stock, then just cut out, peel and stick to the flight stands

It appears they swapped out the whole stand to change altitude. That means a lot of stands. An idea would be to put magnets on the ends of each length of rod. The all you have to do is add or subtract a section of rod for a particular altitude.

Nice looking flight stands. The only issue I have is needing to represent three separate altitude levels. It wasn't clear from the video, but if you need three sets of flight stands for every element, well that's a lot of stands! Or did I misunderstand? Perhaps you are only using a single base for each element and just swapping out the flight pegs? You didn't seem to glue in the flight peg, but the push-fit looked to be pretty tight and if the idea is to swap them out that could be a bit of a faff. Hmm, curious. There is mis-match between the component sizes shown in the text on screen and the links to the Litko products. The bases are quoted as 40mm square but the link shows 50mm square 'heavy duty' bases. Likewise, the flight pegs are quoted as 1/8 inch (3mm) diameter but the link shows 'heavy duty' 3/16 inch (4.5mm) diameter pegs. I'm guessing the components you show in the video are actually the larger sized ones that you link to in the description. Right?

We just swap out the pegs to show different altitudes. The magnets make it easy to swap the planes between pegs!

@MarksGameRoom Ah, thanks. Maybe not as fiddly as I thought. I may try putting magnets on the bases and both ends of the altitude pegs to make swapping them even easier.

@@sticks_of_rhubarb another option, which I ultimately went with, is the telescoping bases. They aren’t as pretty but they’re faster
