Thank god for this video, I’m so tired of the ‘studytubers’ who make videos on note taking just to tell you to make fancy titles with mildliners and that’s it. Pretty notes=/= good notes!
@netayconnection62366 жыл бұрын
True, whereas whatever helps you.For example if you prefer re-writing it then you could do that but obviously what technique you do and revise has to work for you. "Studytubers" just give you advise based on what works for them so they just share experience with their viewers.

Most of them don't tell you that pretty notes = good notes. it's just their methods on how they study because it works for them. it doesn't work for everyone but there are many other techniques you can use like this one
@name.surname.97075 жыл бұрын
its sad but tru. some spend half of the video drawing fancy titles and speech bubbles. i know i don't have time to do that so i do flashcards or i just write in only black pen and then when i get home i will just highlight my notes and add stuff if i want to. personally i dont like those pretty notes because even though they're pretty, they make you focus on the fat fancy title at the top rather than the information you need.

To be honest Eve, we need a more detailed video on this because this is great at summarising the main key points that we need to know but I feel like there's so much more I need to wrap my head around. At this point, I pretty much need an entire video on how to read information more efficiently. Like, I'll read the set chapters for each law module and come out with zero time for doing the additional readings, whilst STILL needing to check that I've actually learned and understood everything for contracts, public law etc. Help! Can we like email you or something? Just jk (not really).

Go in with questions. When reading your lecture notes, think of any questions. Like, what's the difference between a tort or a crime? What are crimes AND torts, and what are just either? What obiter dictum's have become law? Is there a more recent case I can relate to, instead of the one from the 1800s they use in the lecture? Have their been any cases that are really similar but had different results? You just basically keep going through the notes. When you're reading the textbook you're far more likely to retain the info that has answered your questions. And think of it this way. If you only remember one thing from your textbook readings because it answered a question, that's way better than remembering nothing like you do now

this video honestly came at such a great time for me. for context, im a psych student, and my first year i didnt really take notes effectively at all so i wanted to improve on it this year. ive been trying out doing reading before my lecture so my knowledge is more solid, but pretty much all my lecturers just make the powerpoints from the book. you've kinda just made me realise how much time im wasting, since im spending like five hours on reading only to just get the most concise points from the powerpoint, so i think i'll try out doing the reading afterwards and building on the powerpoint with research that's are only in the book. thanks for the video!! really looking forward to a revision noted video, my whole life ive just wrote out notes again and again and done basic knowledge tests so i really want to figure out the best method for me x this is probably just an excuse for me to not do the reading for my 9am tomorrow so big thanks for that

Another student here ^^ thought this might apply: I was doing the exact same thing you were doing last semester until I realized by skimming the chapter’s concept definitions the night or morning before class I was still able keep a step ahead of the lecture and save time when I went back to read it more thoroughly after. It seems like more work when you think about it but I found the information sunk in better, stayed longer, and I was reading much quicker.

I’m a Film Student - I’m in uni 5 days a week, I have roughly 100 (ish) pages of essential reading a night and about 8 assignments a semester. People always tell me my course is a waste of space & it’s not even close to difficult. I always find highlighting in different colours very effective. Yellow is key dates, Pink is key theories, orange is to look into further info & blue is definitions !! 🤩

Something that teachers never teacher is what she’s teaching about textbooks. The SQPR method is essentially the same, except if you’re reading the textbook after class, then you’re already perfectly prepped of what is of the upmost importance, and you can fly through a textbook. From what I’ve found, 30% of the textbook reading is base topics, and 70% expansion on the topics. A non law example would be about low vs high pressure systems. The textbook will explain that low pressure systems are air circling up into the atmosphere in a counter clockwise motion. They’ll also explain that clouds are produced in low pressure systems due to the moist, hot air cooling in the atmosphere. This is important. This is what you need to know. The textbook will then go into detail through the next page and a half about how exactly they’re created, and a bunch of nuanced stuff. Remember, the people writing the textbook are really passionate about the subject, so they love writing about it. You won’t be tested on the nuanced stuff, depending on the class, and chances are you’ll forget about it, too.

Pro Tip: I recommend becoming a Paralegal or whatever you would call it in the UK first. Just from my own observations, paralegals get taught to do all of what's being taught here in an efficient manner and definitely helps the lawyers out when they have one of us haha. But after you get your diploma as a paralegal (or whatever it may be called elsewhere) you also gain experience usually through a work-term in a firm or court. After that if you still really want to become a lawyer, you can make it into a bachelor, or take like one more year before the LSATs in some cases! After you graduate from that you may have a step up when gaining entry into the legal industry because you've already had previous experience! :D I hope that this helps some people :)

This has been very helpful and it only confirms what I noticed about my own studying. My notes are way too detailed. I need to break if down to the most important facts. Otherwise it's impossible to get your revision notes done in time and it will just be a huge mess in the weeks before my exams.

I have just started my law degree and I'm really struggling to take concise notes at the moment, more videos like this would help ridiculously!!
