like this way. i do the same way but keeping a plastic transparent paper on the cake before placing flowers. in this way flowers wont touch the cake. bcz sometimes bought flowers are sprayed with preservatives and dust..

How far in advance do you get the flowers and how far in advance do you decorate the cake...or do you decorate on site?

Hi hun, if you can, the flowers should be bought as close to the event as possible. Even if you order them in advance and pick them up the morning of the event. Even better if you can decorate them on site :) but there are tools you can use to keep them fresh while inside the cake, like those little closed viles filled with a little bit of water so the stem of the flower sits inside, hydrated. I personally just use the flower though and the wires / straws.

That's a beautiful, elegant arrangement but not what I would consider food safe at all. The wire and florist tape and stems are still coming into contact with the cake through the straw. I would just get one or two of those small plastic conical containers that you can push into the cake to hold flowers (and even real flowers with a little water to keep them fresh).

except nobody is going to actually be eating the cake inside the straw so how is not safe and it only comes with contact with the very top of the cake the buttercream and there's more cake at the bottom of the straw so yeah I think it's safe.

Steph L Actually, nope. Depending on how long those flowers are in there, there's lots of places for bacteria to hide and the longer it's in the cake, the more it's contaminated.
