Love, love, love this recipe! Simply amazing. I'm on my second day of making this back to back. Bring back so many good childhood memories. Baked and cheese, saltfish, cornbeef or tuna with a hot cup of cocoa tea on a rainy day. I'm in heaven. Terri thank you so much for sharing this recipe. After years of failed attempts; l can't go wrong now.

I always wanted to make these antiguan style bakes. I tried this recipe twice. First time , they came out too stiff, didn't rise much. The second time was a hit!! They came out exactly how they look in the video. Fat, fluffy and golden brown. I think the key to this recipe is using warm to almost hot water in order to activate the baking powder rapidly. Also, you do not need all of the water the recipe calls for....Use your discretion. The dough must be soft and a bit tacky to get good results. Will be sharing this recipe for sure.

How long do the bakes usually tale to finish? I tried and it came out decent. Did you have the pot on low from start to finish or was it on medium at the beginning then turned down to low ?

1 question I do it but I dont see anyone else doing it so I'm asking. Why not mix the sugar and salt into the water so u know the flavour u getting. U can taste if u added enough of each before hand. Could melt the butter as well I'm not a chef just asking if my self taught techniques are good or wrong?

What if you dont have baking powder can you do it without ?

It won’t rise if there’s no baking powder but also you can use self rising flour without the baking powder and that’ll work :)

I tried this for the first time but I think I went wrong somewhere.. the dough was extremely sticky like it was too much water for the flour.. is it suppose to be sticky?
@TERRIANNSKITCHEN5 жыл бұрын
Jillene Fenton soft but not sticky where it’s getting all over your hands. To correct this just add a bit more flour to the dough about 2-3 tablespoons and it should be soft to the touch but manageable :)

This is a slightly different recipe than the last one ... I tried making them following the previous recipe & the dough was super sticky - and I believe you had 1tsp salt . I also notice your ingredients this time does not contain yeast like before- & you let it rest . I might give it another try though .
@TERRIANNSKITCHEN5 жыл бұрын
Kay Bolden I’m always looking for ways to improve my recipes as they tend to change sometimes. Quite a few people complained of not having yeast so I worked on a recipe that don’t require yeast hence why none used in this video. Please don’t feel discouraged if you try any of my recipes and don’t get it right the first time. Practice makes perfect so I’d say give it as many go’s until you get it. Thanks for your support I really appreciate it :)
