Next time you can take the rendered fat from whatever meat you are cooking and use that instead of the veggie oil and bullion
@moogooguypan25142 жыл бұрын
This is a wonderful technique, the perfect technique to make gravy. I wouldn’t use his ingredients. I prefer butter or meat fat as I don’t like the taste of oil in gravy because it doesn’t have a pleasant taste. Also, although using those fake beef flavors works in a pinch, the next time you go to a grocery store ask the butcher for some beef scraps that you can cook or make real beef gravy. Once you try that you’ll never go back! And once you have mastered gravy, you can do so many things!

FYI to future gravy makers.. Cornstarch is easier to make gravy with because it doesn't clump like flour..also..always stir your flour or Cornstarch in a cup if cold water before introducing large amounts and stir up real good to prevent clumping when it hits the heat.

Me to (my Father) - minus that beef marinade. And minus the butter. We use bacon grease. We just let it cook longer to get it darker. So, I’ll have to find this “beef base” & see what difference it makes.

Just use chicken bones and boil the chicken bones for 45 minutes and then add your cold water and flour mixture to the hot chicken water slowly by stirring and slowly pouring the flour water mix while stirring the hot chicken broth. Add a few chicken cubes or beef cubes for color and seasoning and lots of black pepper or crushed chilies for more heat. Add a large tablespoon of butter or bacon fat at the end for a richer tasting gravy. When you make the flour and water mixture I think it is a cup of flour and to about 1.5 or 1.75 cups of cold water. You will have to play with the flour to water ratio to get the gravy thickness to the way you like. After you add the flour and cold water mixture let the gravy simmer for at least 20 minutes to thicken. Add the seasoning / salt / pepper and taste as you add in small amounts.

Eezy prezy! Thank you so very much! Both of my parents worked through the 60"s and early 70's while I was growing up. My mom cooked and froze the supper meals we would eat throughout the week but every night she made homemade brown gravy that we had with boiled potatoes. With our supper. New brown gravy maker here. I looked at several different recipes but I used yours but substituted bacon grease that was left over from breakfast and didn't really measure anything. I have been making white breakfast gravy and this recipe is very similar so I felt pretty comfortable making it. I used the bullion cubes and although it's tasty it's not as dark as yours. I think the bullion paste made it significantly darker.

I just used a portion of this method and used two cups of fresh shrimp stock instead of beef, then used 1.5 cups of heavy cream, tossed beef sausage and jumbo shrimp and my homemade seasoning blend, and baby this shrimp, sausage and grits is so good. My house is quiet and everybody at the table doesn't have time to talk cause the spoon is scraping the bowl.
