I've always considered myself as one who enjoyed a particularly varied diet. I make sure to get lots of lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats but when I sat down and thought about it, I was surprised to see that many of my choices are on the menu 365 days a year! In this video I share with you the food staples I can't live without, and why! Then we make a quick healthy, high protein bean salad putting Greek yogurt in the spotlight on the savoury side of things!
I'd love to know your diet staples that just never get old, and why!
Here's the recipe for the delicious bean salad with savoury Greek yogurt
1 tin beans of choice - I used a bean medley but also especially love chickpeas and white navy beans
1/2 small red onion sliced thinly
1 tomato chopped
6" or 15cm piece of cucumber seeds removed
Chopped cilantro if you like it! Fresh parsley is fine or just omit
1 cup or 250ml Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 clove garlic crushed
1/4 tsp cinnamon
S&P
Splash of olive oil (optional)
Rinse your beans well and pat dry
Add beans and veggies to a bowl
Combine yogurt, garlic and spices and add olive oil if using.
Toss with beans and cilantro
Enjoy!

Wonderful video❤️! About the cinnamon- Ceylon cinnamon does not have the negative liver effects that cassia cinnamon does, I switched because I consume so much of it😅!

thanks for the review Mrs. Tennyson, I generally try and get about 8-10 servings of "plant food" (aka fruits and vege) each day and the rest protein sources (like swapping out the oatmeal for cottege cheese, adding some berries and some of that "bro-tein powder lol) will deff. have to give that dressing a try

You always go that extra mile Mama Tenny 😄 Not just saying your everyday staples but information about them 👍🏻. I guessed half of these! So pretty good. I have to agree that Oatmeal (we call it Porridge this side of the world) is my number 1 favourite food! And plain Greek yoghurt is number 2. Thank you Nancy for the video and the bean salad recipe. I've been sticking to the kimchi or sauerkraut once a day. It's a fun little side dish and bonus, haven't been sick this winter. If you and Paul figure out a savory dinner option for oatmeal besides Haggis, let us know. Thanks!

Hi and thank you! We’ve been having a laugh thinking about this gigantic dinner Will used to make. We called it “the vat”. It looked like it would feed a family of 6 but was massively unappealing. Ground turkey and oatmeal sludge. I’ll have to do better 😂

@MamaTenny Sometimes I will drink a homemade ice capp, but with almond milk, water, sweetener, and ice. Sometimes with protein powder. I have always liked variety of different things. I will just have a hot Coffee or tea. I come from an Art background. So I randomly make up smoothies, etc. on my own taste. I like trying new things like drinks, and food. So I will try it a couple of times. I tried this berry tea a few times because I paid for it, yeah no!!!! Lol

Hi Mama Tenny, Love your videos. Do you eat cottage cheese? That is one of my staples, with fruit. Thank you a bunch. Totally off-topic but I fell x 2 and broke both my shoulders. I had reverse shoulder replacements done about 4 weeks ago, 9 days in hospital. You are so right regarding bone health/strength. I was helpless, totally. Forced to acquire core strength to get up. Craziness. The rehab therapy hurts like the dickens but gotta do it. Going on a cruise in Nov. ❤🛳 I hope you have a great week coming up.

Omg!!! That is crazy, I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through! You are clearly very resilient in mind and in body! It sounds like you’ve been through the wringer but have dug deep and are coming through stronger and with such a great attitude! Your diet was pretty much my diet. I ate all those foods but they are very rough on my stomach. Currently I'm doing carnivore . My tummy feels better this way but I absolutely love and miss all the foods you eat. Coffee is something that I can't do without, and I put cinnamon & pumpkin pie spice in the grounds before brewing everyday.

Like you I'm a tea girl - Rishi is an organic tea company that has hands down the best teas! I always have Earl Gray or English Breakfast first thing in the am, then move on the Matcha and a Chai that I add coconut milk for a latte :)

Hi there and thanks so much! I’m very active and find that about 1g per pound of body weight works for me. It definitely helps to keep you full and maintain optimal glucose levels and feed our muscles 💪🏼😘
