It is reproducing the treble frequencies with a metallic tone because of the metal dome. If it were a silk dome or other lighter material, it would reproduce a softer treble sound with greater wide-ranging high frequencies.

Bravo! These look VERY similar to my EPI 100v speakers "inverted" tweeters. EPI made two versions of them, the newer version of them, produces the most incredible, wide, 3D Sound-Stage, that you can ever imagine. You should also try Inverting the Cap... making in concave, instead of a Dome (just flip it over). The Concave shape, seems to be able to spread the high frequencies a LOT wider and better, than a typical Dome shaped tweeter. As for Midrange, the best Ive ever heard, was a 3 inch dome version (on a different speaker altogether. And typically, Im not a huge fan of midrange... but these were so very Buttery Smooth, that I was in love with them). The EPI tweeter plays the midrange frequencies pretty darn well. The EPI 100v woofers, are a special 8" woofer... that according to the Designer, he used a heavier gauge coil winding on them. He did this, so that they automatically filtered out the high frequencies... without the need for an additional Crossover component. They have very large, heavy, and powerful magnets... as they are designed to be in an Airtight box, and need that power to be able to deal with air compression forces. It uses the cabinet air like a centering spring. The bass is incredibly deep for the size of the woofer, and the small size of the enclosure. Its both deep and punchy... and at very high volume levels.. creates some decent vibrational shaking... similar to a sub. Whats most amazing about these speakers... is that they completely vanish into a room. In fact, when I first heard them playing... I spend about 10 to 15 minutes, trying to physically locate them. It was like the sound was just Holographically projected, into a 3d sound field... probably with a range of about 20 x 20 ft squared. The other amazing thing about them... is that they have such little distortion... that I was able to make out lyrics from a singer... that I could never understand before. Where normally... the musical instrumentations and effect... sort of Muddied together with his vocals... making it impossible to tell what he was saying. But with these speakers, the instruments were clearly defined from his vocals in that section... and it was easy to make out what he was singing. This level of power and precision control... is unmatched in todays ported ECO-Speakers. And as such, they cant even come close to what these 1970s era speakers are capable of. They totally blew the local high end stereo shops $3500 speakers, completely out of the water. No competition at all. One of the original workers from EPI or Genesis, still repairs, and custom builds, brand new EPI replacement drivers, at Humanspeakers dot com. According to him, he made improvements to the already fantastic EPI 100v inverted tweeter. That said, Ive never heard his updated version in person... so I couldnt say anything either way. Id been considering trying to add a 3" dome midrange the mix... and potentially either a 2nd woofer or a passive radiator, to see what might happen. But as Ive said, they sound fantastic as is. Better than anything Ive ever owned / heard... and thats saying a lot, as ive owned over 30 different speakers, and have heard some really unique and rare speakers, in my lifetime. It would be nice if you actually make a c-shaped box (open baffle), when you play these as a test... so that people can get an even better idea of how they actually sound.

Great technique. Just a question: why not to center like a bass speaker and then place the dome? 🤔
@homemade_audio8 ай бұрын
Because on tweeters in most of cases the dome and surround are one unit! Same material !
@DreamsOfTheMind-video5 күн бұрын
Because then the tweeter wont reach higher frequenties because of the 'heavy" membrane of the bass speaker.

Hi very interesting indeed Could kitchen aluminum foil work as well ? much lighter than the bottom of a can another very good material should be the one from which the old floppy disks were made it can be formed with an hot air gun i guess

Good idea but not for this, i suggest to use damaged compression driver diaphragm fos best result. A lot of compression driver diaphragm damaged has only broken voice coil but physically still good.

@@homemade_audio Hi thank you very much for your kind advice I was noticing that magnets of small woofers have usually a 1" coil gap exactly like the magnet for most tweeters Maybe they are even the same I wonder that the magnets are all glued to the basket or also soldered I will try to do something Great idea Kind regards gino

@theloudspeakernerd-tlsn9322 Жыл бұрын
Well you do have to remove the coil if there is alot of it. The coil is heavy enough to reduce the frequenzy response by alot. This means that the tweeter isnt able to go as high

apart from the weight, the width of the tweeter coil must not exceed that of the top plate, the coil must vibrate in the magnetic flux created by the top plate for best HF reproduction.
