Very informative video, I love WWC products :) I have 2 questions: 1. Can i mix witch hazel and distilled water together? Say 70:30 ratio? 2. Understand that water based product can get infected by bacteria, hence, it is advisable to add preservative? If yes, what amount to use and which brand is recommended? Thanks & Stay Safe!

You can use all witch Hazel as it will make the scent last longer and can be stored longer outside of the fridge. The cost however will be much more expensive. I do a 60/40 blend with 60 witch Hazel and 40 % distilled water that has been energized in the full moon with a white or pink quartz in the water to help energize even more. Hope this helps

Due to the natural nature of the witch hazel, separate can occur. Make sure you're shaking between uses and you can use polysorbate 20 to help your fragrance solubilize into your formula:makesy.com/products/polysorbate-20?_pos=1&_sid=17b73f0f1&_ss=r

How do you get the oil and the witch hazel to incorporate and emulsify? I’ve never had luck with witch hazel and essential oils. Unless I use a polysorbate 20.
@makesyofficial
@makesyofficial 2 ай бұрын
Our witch hazel has 14% organic alcohol in it, which helps to solubilize the fragrances! Lighter, thinner oils can incorporate on their own without any further solubilizer, but not all. For any that are giving you problems, we recommend starting with a 2:1 ratio of polysorbate 20 OR our natural biosolv solubilizer to fragrance. If the mixture is still cloudy or the oil is beading at the top, increase the ratio of your solubolizer until you get the desired results. Thick, resinous or spicy fragrances can be the toughest to work with!

Hi! I’ve tried making my room spray countless times not and I cannot get it to stop separating. I run a small business and would hate to sell a product that looks like that! Does yours separate? Is it inevitable? Or am I doing something wrong?
@makesyofficial
@makesyofficial 2 жыл бұрын
Don’t panic, we can fix this! Fragrance oil and oil molecules are much larger than water molecules, so they tend to separate. If you first mix your fragrance oil or base oil with a solubilizing product, like Polysorbate-20 (a medium sized molecule), it helps the ingredients to blend into water, witch hazel, alcohol, or whatever other liquid base you are using, which tend to be made up of much smaller molecules. In sum, mix your fragrance and solubilizer first, and then add to your base secondarily.

Every time I use this base, it’s cloudy. Any suggestions?
@makesyofficial
@makesyofficial 2 жыл бұрын
When your spray base becomes cloudy, this is typically due to one or more of the ingredients not solubilizing properly. The most common culprit is your fragrance. Try mixing your fragrance oil with Polysorbate-20 at a 2:1 ratio (2 parts Polysorbate, 1 part fragrance oil) as a starting point to help the mixture blend properly. Hope this helps!

Hi! Yes the MAX for VOC content is 10% however we only suggest using 3-6% load, it is plenty strong in this range.

@@makesyofficial so you recommend 3-6% per 16oz?

@@asiapierce7857 Hi Asia! It would be 3-6% of your total formula, yes! You will calculate this based on the total amount of product you need to make. For example, if you are making 20oz of finished product, 3-6% of 20oz is your fragrance load.

It is a myth that witch hazel can be used as a base with essential oils safely. Hydrous (made with water) products and oils, including essential oils do not mix. Ever. DIY aromatherapy sprays that use essential oils mixed with water components such as witch hazel are unsafe. No amount of shaking the bottle before you spray will ever solubilize and disperse witch hazel with essential oils. This DIY recipe lacks proper solubilization and dilution. 190 Proof Grain alcohol will work to both solubilize and disperse the oils throughout. If you spray this recipe on your skin - it's like applying essential oils neat and there may be a negative skin reaction. Tisserand Institute is the go-to resource for essential oil safety.

Hi there dawn! Our lab has extensively tested these materials for safety and efficacy. Be assured that we would not promote any product that would be unsafe for our customers.

@@makesyofficial you don’t specify that your witch hazel has additives meant to solubilize the oils. People will see this and think they can use plain witch hazel.

@makesyofficial So all I have to do is use the witch hazel and FO to make my room sprays. In the past I was using the polysoborate and perserative and distilled water but I recently purchased the witch hazel from Makesy so is it really that simple and easy and do I have to use the entire bottle or is that just for me to make 4 containers. Use Les if I’m only doing one or two

Hi! The polysorbate does help so the base and fragrance do not separate! With just the base and fragrance as shown in the video we suggest to shake before every use :) If you are adding distilled water then a preservative may be best to add as well! If you just want to make 1 spray then you would use 0.165oz of fragrance/essential oil and 4oz of base
