Made this today-----it's fantastic. What an explosion of apple taste. This was my first time making it and I was nervous about boiling it down too much, so I used the chopstick you suggested and marked out the one-eighth level and then I took it off immediately when it got to that point even though I didn't see the amber bubbles, and it turned out perfectly..............Thank you so much for your wonderful instructions. I'm going to try the syrup next.

Hi carol, I made your boiled apple cider and the way it went over at my house was a surprise. I did 2 gallons that would last over the winter, my husband asked what will you do with all that cider? Besides the other uses I told him about the drink, it went over so well I just call the orchard if I can get 4 more gallons. Now everyone wants it, thank you so much it is the best, did put it in my applesauce.

Hi, Carol, I just LOVE your videos and recipes! We took our 5 gkiddos and their parents and picked apples and pressed our own cider at some good friends home this weekend, quite an experience! We pressed 7 gals of cider, I made two batches this afternoon, took 3-1/2 hrs and yielded 2 full pints, so yummy!😋 I didn't have to skim while cooking or run thru cheesecloth as our friend has a great filtration system...that was really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing you share some tasty recipes with us so "I can get my boiled cider on!"😊

Just went to my local orchard this morning and bought two gallons. Also bought cider donuts. Yum. Looking forward to making this tomorrow. Put some in your donut recipe-best donuts ever. I would think that one could use pasteurized apple cider since once it's boiled it's pasteurized anyway. But maybe not so much on the additives and preservatives that are usually in grocery store ciders.
@carol-thriftychichousewife62315 жыл бұрын
Inkdraft I’ve done it with pasteurized and it was fine. I read somewhere that the preservatives concentrate when you boil it down so I was trying to avoid negative feedback by using the unpasteurized with no preservatives 😉. I don’t know if that’s even true so I was just trying to avoid the issue altogether 😊

@carol-thriftychichousewife62315 жыл бұрын
Ohio Ladybug I’ve only used it as a flavor enhancer. If you have a recipe calling for cider you may have to reconstitute it to have enough liquid in your recipe. If the amount of liquid isn’t a factor, add however much you want for desired taste. Hope that helps. Yes, go Bucks! 😉😍
@ilchickentv3403 жыл бұрын
Pasteurization is just the process of heating up to kill bacteria. There is no point in using an unpasteurized product if you’re boiling out all of the freshness anyway. Preservatives are a separate thing, and are listed in the ingredients. There are plenty of grocery store juices and ciders that are preservative free.
@lindagailsch5 жыл бұрын
Will it not work if you use the pasturized cider? I live in rural Kansas & we just have a small farmers mkt & no orchards near by.
@carol-thriftychichousewife62315 жыл бұрын
Linda Schneidewind it will still work. The first time I made it I used pasteurized bc that’s all I could find. From what I’ve researched pasteurized cider tastes different than fresh. And most are opposed to the preservatives (I was trying to avoid those comments 😉). Between you and me, I didn’t notice much difference in the flavor between the two. So if that’s all you can find and the preservatives don’t bother you then go for it 😍
