Something you probably think is strange reminded me of my grandma. At the end of the video the sunlight and shadows were playing across your face. At 12 grandma thought I was old enough to learn to be in the kitchen with her. When she taught the shadows played. Thank you for that memory. I know silly comment.

That cheesecloth that came from you husband's Grandmother is a piece of family history that she entrusted to you. During the Great Depression there was just no money for new clothes. Every stitch was handed down or repurposed. At the time, flour was purchased in 50 lb bags, and women would use that to make dresses and such, and the embroidery was just to put a little bit of a decorative touch to it. When the flour companies figured that out, they started making their sacks with a print. It wasn't necessary, and there was no money in doing it, but women appreciated having a pattern on their dresses: it was helping your fellow in time of need. This was something she saved and kept as a memory of the hard times that she and her family went through. I think I would keep it with the patchwork quilt you might have as an example of folk art.

Folks she is teaching and is genuine! Those of you who have to say something negative are possibly unhappy people. This homestead is trying to show how they do things and teach others their process. Why watch the channel if you just want to be crabby! I for one enjoy these hard working people who like to share experiences, so we don’t make mistakes when we try to repeat these process. SMH

Huh? I don't see anyone being "crabby" on here, others who have experience are also offering useful tips and there are other styles and methods for making Farmers Cheese as well. Experiment until you find what works for you...or you can simply follow the steps in this excellent Video and be content with the results.

It's odd how we forget over time, what as a child we watched grandma doing back on the farm. Much of what you show now so often was just our way of life back then. We rarely store bought much other than salt and sugar the rest we made ourselves. Thanks for stirring my old memories once again!

I am an Indian! So we make this cheese at home very often! May be you are familiar with the term “Paneer”. One thing I can suggest that you wash it with cold water so that when you will squeeze it the hot whay will not burn your hand! 2nd if you feel tired and not to wash anything right then just leave all of the equipments along with cheese cloth in water with kitchen soap. Washing will be lot easier!

I used your video as a guide to make cheese. It turned out just like you said. I used a gallon of whole milk from the store. I tried some fresh and it seemed to be lacking in flavor. Maybe go for raw milk next time? It was more of a learning experience than anything else. It was a lot of fun for sure! Also for anyone about to try this, definitely use the flour sack towel and not traditional cheesecloth. The curds squeeze through quite easily. Thanks for the great videos!

Sara, watching you make this cheese gave me confidence to try it myself. The first time was a semi-flop. I had unknowingly used ultra pasteurized milk so it didn't make curds. So I switched gears and used it to make yogurt, which turned out just fine, even with the added vinegar. The second try was a resounding success! Of course, I made sure to use regular pasteurized organic whole milk. The only thing I would do differently is not use as much salt, but that's just personal taste. I'll be doing this again for sure! Thank you for such an understandable video!

@@vickimoore7646 hi, you don't add sugar during the cheese making process, it's the regular cheese but you can use any bread dough (dinner rolls are the best) crumble the cheese let say 1/2 tablespoon per roll. Stretch the dough and think maybe calzone, brush with milk and sprinkle sugar in the top.

Can be frozen, also okay to let curds develop by itself for several minutes. And let milk go to room temperature. Very good, blessings. I've learned to make gelatinous chicken bone broth and homemade butter so easy. With rising prices these foods will come in handy. Taste better with less store bought ingredients.

I started making goat cheese the same way only with lemon juice as the acid. Now i found it cheaper to use vinegar. I recently found a farmer who will sell raw milk. I love them both but never tried freezing it. So thanks for the tip. Hope everyone stays safe during covid . Happy your relatives are coming to live with you.

When I was a child, we had a cow. My sister's and I, drank sweet fresh milk, and when Mom made butter, we fought over the buttermilk. Mom made cottage cheese with the excess milk. Grandma's sister had milk cows, so there was fresh milk at Grandmas too. My husband and I had a small dairy herd, when our three kids were small. In my state, now, a milk producer cannot sell to an individual. I would love, to get my hands on some fresh milk, to make this cheese.

So I found your video and made it, omg it’s the best and tasted better than store bought. You saved me that day because I had all my ingredients except for the farmers cheese to make my pierogi filling. It came out amazing and I Thank you so much ! Love you guys xoxo

I have added powdered smoke bought from Amazon. I kept the zip - lock bag in my drawer for a week before moving it into kitchen cupboard and a EVERYTHING still smells smoked bacon 7 days later! The cheese turned out nice but I used cheese salt: the grains take time to dissolve so I didn't realise I oversalted it, so I had to use it in cooking instead of on crackers. I also tried adding caramel flavouring and a bit of sugar on one batch, but I couldn't resist adding some zest of the lemon and the whole batch tasted like lemon cheesecake! That one went quickly. Now I have a batch draining in the kitchen: half is flavoured with hickory powder and the other with lemongrass. I will be interested to see if the flavours work... This cheese is ideal for experimenting with flavours and milk isn't too expensive to experiment on. :)

I make cheese with my crock pot no stirring necessary. Put milk in the crock pot heat it on low for three hours if using cold milk for fridge, 2 hours at room temp (65 degrees). Set a timer return when the timer bings, add your vinegar. Easy peasy and no stirring.

@wendypursel3142

@@serenarenee08 it does not need to be raw. In my state you have to jump through hoops to get it. I use whole milk from the store. You can NOT use ultra-pasteurized milk. The label will say ultra-pasteurized. But regular pasteurized milk will work. In the video she mentions using store bought milk, but it wasn't highlighted but I knew to listen for it because I had the same question myself while watching a different video.

@Rainmaker65 3 жыл бұрын
From some of other videos I've seen, the whey can be re-cooked for a cheese every Italian, and others that like cheese, knows as Riccotta. Rumor also has it that you can use whey to make yogurt. Though I've never made any cheese, it would appear that Farmers Cheese would be considered a "mother cheese." Winter's coming on in Ohio (November, 2021), and I might need a hobby or two...
