That cheesecloth that came from you husband's Grandmother is a piece of family history that she entrusted to you. During the Great Depression there was just no money for new clothes. Every stitch was handed down or repurposed. At the time, flour was purchased in 50 lb bags, and women would use that to make dresses and such, and the embroidery was just to put a little bit of a decorative touch to it. When the flour companies figured that out, they started making their sacks with a print. It wasn't necessary, and there was no money in doing it, but women appreciated having a pattern on their dresses: it was helping your fellow in time of need. This was something she saved and kept as a memory of the hard times that she and her family went through. I think I would keep it with the patchwork quilt you might have as an example of folk art.

I am an Indian! So we make this cheese at home very often! May be you are familiar with the term “Paneer”. One thing I can suggest that you wash it with cold water so that when you will squeeze it the hot whay will not burn your hand! 2nd if you feel tired and not to wash anything right then just leave all of the equipments along with cheese cloth in water with kitchen soap. Washing will be lot easier!

So I switched gears and used it to make yogurt, which turned out just fine, even with the added vinegar. The second try was a resounding success! I have added powdered smoke bought from Amazon. I kept the zip - lock bag in my drawer for a week before moving it into kitchen cupboard and a EVERYTHING still smells smoked bacon 7 days later! The cheese turned out nice but I used cheese salt: the grains take time to dissolve so I didn't realise I oversalted it, so I had to use it in cooking instead of on crackers. I also tried adding caramel flavouring and a bit of sugar on one batch, but I couldn't resist adding some zest of the lemon and the whole batch tasted like lemon cheesecake! That one went quickly. Now I have a batch draining in the kitchen: half is flavoured with hickory powder and the other with lemongrass. I will be interested to see if the flavours work... This cheese is ideal for experimenting with flavours and milk isn't too expensive to experiment on. :)

You dont have to heat it up that high! The "hard" part of the milk reacts with the vinegar in just above room temperature. Just pour the vinegar when the milk is as hot as you could put it on your skin and not get burned (like you're preparing it for a baby). Leave that for about an hour and come back to cut it with a knife in an angle. It cuts best cause it makes the curds more os less the same size. Leave it for 5 min and then stir for another 15 min. Drain it with a towel or cheesecloth and there you go =). Fresh farm cheese rules. I like the video, just getting you to do less work ;) Cheers!

WOW!!!😲 I never knew making cheese was so easy! I remember when we use to go to the farm to get our whole milk, straight from the cow! It had cream and my mom would put the cream in an old Miracle Whip jar with a little salt and have us kids take turns shaking it until it turned to butter! Oh the good ole' days! Great video! I'm going to subscribe to your channel! God bless, SCOOTER🛵👍👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏

Hi I am new to your channel - so glad that I stumbled upon it. So much to learn from you though I am not a homesteader I have always leaned towards homemade from scratch. I am in Canada but also lived in super small town KS for 4 years. Your channel is excellent - so well put together and informative. My very best to you and yours.

That is awesome! I always heard you have to use rennet, which is not inexpensive. Plus a gallon of organic milk is $6 here. The only trick for me is finding fresh, unprocessed milk. But I'll use a gallon of whole milk organic milk for this recipe and split it into one batch with sugar for sweets, one batch with sun-dried tomatoes to see how the olive oil affects the taste, one blendedcwith whole cream to make cream cheese, and one with fresh herbs. This would make a great gift! Plus even if it costs me $6 for milk and $4 for cream, the 4 types of cheese it would yield would be worth $23 or more if store bought (and I shy away from expensive cheese due to cost, until holidays). So grateful! 😊

I have watched this video three times today! First time for the information, second time to get started making some farmers cheese and third time to finish making farmers cheese! I had made a batch of yogurt yesterday and today that didn’t turn out very well...it was very liquidy with lots of whey and I couldn’t figure out what to do with it until I saw this video and now I have a nice round of farmers cheese sitting in the refrigerator and I have a half a gallon jar of whey. Now I just need to use to figure out how to use the whey in the best way! (No pun intended) 😁😂🤣 Thank you for sharing!

Love it!! Thanks I've watched more than a few videos about how to make cheese, and was always a bit confused about when to add the salt and spices and olive oil. Also how you explain pressing it at the end is very helpful!

I made my second batch the other day and I love making this cheese; it's delicious! I added some chopped thyme from my garden and it's great! Mine comes out very crumbly in the end which makes it great for adding to salads and putting on top of spaghetti. Maybe I'm removing too much whey?

Store goat milk is horrible. You would just concentrate the horribleness. Fresh goat milk from girls in their 90 essential nutrients is sweet and mild.

When I was a kid we made cottage cheese just by letting the milk sit out and curdle then heat till it separated and poured into an old pillowcase to drain. We'd hang them on the clothesline to get the liquid out

I’m so excited to learn something new! Can’t wait to see more videos expanding on what to do with the whey and how to make other cheeses like cottage cheese and mozzarella and goat cheese! Is there a particular reason that you don’t salt the milk before adding in the vinegar? I’ve always been told to salt boiling water before adding pasta or potatoes to fully incorporate the flavor.. just curious behind this? Keep up the great videos! I really enjoy your Chanel! I’m just starting my homesteading story so I have so much to learn!!

Monica Olivares you can substitute the whey for the same amount of water in bread recipes. You can also make another “ cheese” from whey. Look up Norwegian brown cheese
@Rainmaker653 жыл бұрын
From some of other videos I've seen, the whey can be re-cooked for a cheese every Italian, and others that like cheese, knows as Riccotta. Rumor also has it that you can use whey to make yogurt. Though I've never made any cheese, it would appear that Farmers Cheese would be considered a "mother cheese." Winter's coming on in Ohio (November, 2021), and I might need a hobby or two...

Putting in baking soda in water to soak any pot or dish that has dried on ‘concrete’ makes life easier! Using merlot, or blueberry wine makes an amazing flavor too. Open the wine a week b4 you use it, instead of vinegar. Or do vinegar 1/2 & wine 1/2.
