I have used similar recipes in the past that didn't work for me. Now I make one using washing soda, baking soda, salt and essential oils. It works better than any laundry detergent I have ever used. I learn this from Heidi at Rain Country. Cassandra, I am a new subscriber and am thoroughly enjoying your content!

Hi Deborah! Don’t you just love Heidi from Rain Country! (God is good, all the time!) Finding the right recipe starts off tricky but when you’ve got one it’s a keeper. I’m going to have to search through her videos to find the recipe. Thanks for passing along that it’s a recipe you trust and for your kind words!!

I use the ZOTE and love it! I grate by hand because that is how my Nanna did it. Then I blend everything through my food processor, to make a find powder. :)

Haha yes, I still hand grate! It’s a good little work out but gets the job done. I need to get a large scale food processor (all I have currently is my small ninja). I love being able to keep raw ingredients on hand and being able to whip up a batch when needed! It’s so special you had Nana to show you! So special!

I do make my own but use the liquid variety. It makes a 5 gallon bucket which lasts forever lol

Your earrings are so pretty ! I think I'm in the minority because I actually enjoy doing laundry. I have learned a lot more about it from The Laundry Evangelist aka Patric (sic) Richardson. He has a degree in textiles & has worked in high-end clothing stores. He really knows fabric & how to care for it. He's on You Tube. He said the most common mistakes people make are using way too much detergent, fabric softener & dryer sheets.

I have been a subscriber for quite a while and enjoy your channel. I make my own detergent. I would like your take on these 2 issues. I previously used Zote soap then one day in fine print I saw that they didn't recommend Zote soap used in HE washers (you may find this on Zote Soap Flakes). I stop using it. Next I was using Oxi Clean powder and I noticed my tops were being bleached from the Oxi Clean. Now if I need Oxi Clean I add it separate to my wash. Thanks and please address these 2 above questions.

I make both powder and liquid laundry soap. Pref is powder for towels and hard to clean items.

Hello, friend! Ah, what an excellent observation and very good to know. Have you noticed that the shelf life of your liquid deteriorates faster/or is more temperamental than the powdered version?

The washing soda is very caustic if inhaled...you would think the Borax would be worse, but it isn't.

Hi Cassandra, hope you are fine. Two questions: 1) alternative for Fels naphtha in vegan category and 2) Is Oxyclean necessary. Thanks
@BecomingaFarmGirl
@BecomingaFarmGirl 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! So good to see you again. A vegan brand for washing soap is “True Earth”-excellent reviews but it’ll definitely cut into this being a cheaper alternative. I understand that may not be your goal. No, you don’t need Oxiclean and it’s definitely the most expensive product in this recipe but it acts as a boosting agent for all of the other ingredients. I would advise it for things wit strong scents (like workout clothes) or heavily stained items (my dogs coat after a hike, my yard work/gardening clothes, etc) to truly get a clean. But for everyday wear- not at all. Happy New Year!
