The pH level varies by the oil you use. Any hard oil is suitable but lard and beef tallow are traditionally used.

Yes, of course. You can add fragrance oil as well.

i just made the laundry bar soaps, and used the coconut one to make the laundry powder one, and the beef tallow( well i had beef drippings-aka- fat) as stain sticks. they work Awesome ! I ran out of dishwashing liquid today, and used the washing powder one, and it did an awesome job of cleaning a few of my glass jars, and a few other items, with no film. thanks sooo much!

The vast majority of the saponification is done in the 1st 24 hours. The cure time mainly allows the soap to harden up (the water evaporates out of them). When you discount the water you can decrease the amount of cure time. And because this is a laundry soap, no harm in using it right away (no biggie if a tiny bit of extra water gets in the laundry!).

Hi Love the recipe I had created a similar coconut soap for it's cleaning properties. I have a quick question. Are you letting the coconut oil soap cure before blending it? I live on the south eastern coast of virginia in the summer it gets pretty humid here i didn't cure (i'm impatient) but the soap clumped together on me. So In my powdered soap i have soap clumps.

Hi Cathy and followers, my laundry soap separated so I reheated and stirred again. It was a little better but still separated. Today with it being room temperature, I put everything back into my mixing bowl and used a stick blender to mix it well. Seemed to have worked. Conclusion, mix washing soda and borax very well before thinking you are done stirring. Hope this was the solution, if not, I'll let you know. :-)

@alexamucino11 жыл бұрын
hi there, can I use vegetable shortening instead of lard? thank you....You rock!!
@shermdog69695 жыл бұрын
This is not detergent. This is soap. Coconut oil acts as a surfactant and detergents are a man made ingredient. About Surfactants Surfactants aid in cleaning because they reduce surface tension and improve water’s ability to spread evenly over it. This creates a more uniform wetness that makes dirt and soil easier to wipe away and remove. Surfactant molecules can also have either a positive or negative charge, with one end attracted to water and the other end attracted to dirt and grease. This helps detergents attach to dirt, break it up and let water wash it away. Soaps are made from natural ingredients, such as plant oils (coconut, vegetable, palm, pine) or acids derived from animal fat. Detergents, on the other hand, are synthetic, man-made derivatives. While soap is limited in its applications, detergents can be formulated to include other ingredients for all sorts of cleaning purposes. Perhaps the most common and versatile of these ingredients are surfactants … surface active agents.

Thanks for doing such great videos.
