Thanks a lot for the nice video . Can i ask you a bout the free style libre sensor can i pass the airport security gate with it or its bad for it and the insulins pens for the x ray check i heard insulin’s can be ruined its my first time travelling as a t 1 d and don’t know much about it . Thanks anyway .

@@yoyogamr8150 I've had no issue going through airport security with my Dexcom on or putting insulin in my carry-on luggage as the security people see this all the time when going through the scanners and know it's an insulin pen. I've never experienced insulin going through the scanner and ruining it. I do either put my unused pens in the refrigerator when I get to my destination or put it in an evaporating cooler pouch designed for insulin if no refrigerator is available.

Once again Tom this is a great video and you have solved a problem I have recently had over recent months My Fiasp was taking 2 or 3 hours to start working on some occasions and I thought it was randomly faulty lol!!! Since following your exact instructions it is now constantly working in 15 minutes! The top of the stomach in particular is very effective. 12 months ago I stopped seeing a specialist because they were unable to help me with my control You have just solved one of my major issues! Thank you so much

I just need to cry to someone who understands. I love your videos and have been following you for a long time. This may not be relevant to your video here but please but a video out about the danger of food poisoning to type 1's. I recently got my free style libre and felt better then ever!! Blood sugars have been better controlled than ever. Amazing!! I had one of the best days this Sunday since I have been diagnosed and... Ate some bad sushi that night. 25+ hrs vomiting. Afterwards my stomache and sides and esophagus hurt so much I couldn't drink or eat. Was in the ICU the last 3 days DKA. I cried in the emergency room when they said I was DKA and they had to transfer me to ICU. My payout is 3200 per individual. (We pay 1200 a month for this insurance) Which is much better then what the total bill cost, but how I'm I going to pay that. Living paycheck to paycheck. Back to work on Monday I guess. Most of all I wish I would of gone sooner and not have been worried about the cost.

Really good info Tom, thanks! I like being able to bring my glucose level down as fast as possible and improve my time in range and for eating high carb foods. I always felt injecting my Lyumjev insulin in my outer upper arm was always the fastest and now I understand why and to me injecting in that area is not painful. The only issue with the arm is amount of area you have to rotate around to avoid creating scare tissue but heck I also have two arms. I also want to try your other suggestions like massaging the site and it's easy to exercise the arm with some curls to increase blood flow to make it work even faster. One thought, is it better to do this before, after or both when injecting? I was thinking after as it would help distribute the insulin faster? I also need to try the area in my upper abdomen but sounds more painful than my arm? The only thing I know that would be faster is injecting insulin directly into a vein but that could cause a dangerous infection! I always use 8mm pen needles as longer ones bend too easily and shorter does not get deep enough into the muscle for better absorption and heck I can inject right through most shirts on the go with no problems! As you can tell I am not a pumper and never have been even after living with T1D for 44 years. I use Tresiba long acting once in the morning and Lyumjev short acting typically 5 to 7 times a day and get around 90 TIR and 35 mg/dL SD, which I think is pretty good using just injections but I also exercise 3 or more days a week and watch my weight and diet.

Thanks Tom. I’ve tended toward lower abdomen as that seems to be the most comfortable. I’ll keep upper in mind when I’m running ‘late’ on my shot. Question- why does it burn sometimes? And other times I barely feel anything.

I get burn occasionally on the belly too, and it's usually because I took it too fast (but not always)

great video thanks. I've learned to be more patient after a sugar spike and taking humalog. If it didn't work in a few minutes I used to take another shot and then in 1//2 an hour or so it would drop dangerously low. I'll have to try the heat treat method.. maybe with a hair dryer or something. I only use the right or left side abdomen. I really don't have much fat anywhere else and muscle shots REALLY hurt.
@joyyoder59422 жыл бұрын
yes, I did the same thing,now losing weight,muscle shots hurt. I use Humulog as well an noticed that then went too low. I'm really noticing to pay attention at nite beore bed or after supper. You feel terrible if you wake up low and sleepy. trying to function and get a bite of something. I put a hot wash cloth on area to inject and that always works good.

But thanks to your videos I decided to take the plunge into Freestyle Libre to take some more control back and finally get in shape. :>

How do we apply this on a pump?
@lozetchells9164 Жыл бұрын
I use the bicep when I really want it fast, which makes sense when you think about it. Be careful though, it may be TOO fast. Never found it painful. Whenever I can, I go for a bike ride shortly after eating. That makes a huge difference. A brisk walk works reasonably well too.

You really need to spread where you inject your insuline. For the first 8 years of my diabetes type-1 I injected in the abdomen but you get 'bumps' which is scar tissue massing underneath the skin. Nowadays I inject in my thighs but like you said it takes time to have effect. I'll try my upper arms the coming weeks to see if it has effect. Thanks for the tips. Edit: I have noticed that if I'm on vacation in a warm climate destination after a few days my body needs LESS insuline than normally.

Oooh, this is really informative, thanks! You could also jump into a hot shower or use a heating pad, I guess, to warm up the area if you do an intramuscular injection.

Inter-muscular injections of lantus is painful. Novalog/humalog is not. The key is to do it quickly. Dr Bernstein’s Diabetes University channel has a tutorial on how to do IM safely and with any more risk of pain or bruising than a normal interstitial injection. You should try it and let us know what you think.

Dr. Bernstein suggests injecting into the deltoid muscle, with a long syringe for fastest absorbtion. I inject 1 unit of Humalog into my deltoid with a 1/2 inch syringe when I need a correction. It doesn't hurt and it works very fast.

What length of needle you recommend? The free needles we get are those 4 mm kids' size, that's way too short even if pressed hard.

I can get high blood sugars down to healthy range in less than an hour but the problem is, large portions of NovoRapid require lots of soda and I still need to be alert for about three hours
@fnhff2 жыл бұрын
The 4mm needles are not long enough to reach muscle. I find 8mm to be ok but 12mm to be ideal for intramuscular injections

@@fnhff Thanks for the advice. Seems the local diabetic store has 8mm and 12,7 mm. I'll have to try out, carefully of course.

Applies with any kind of medication. Though on the record I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and if one chooses to do so, bright light, running water, soap and alcohol wipes are absolute must
