A true British classic pudding. As a kid, way back in the sixties, jam roly- poly, steam puddings etc were always looked forward to. Being diabetic now, something I can't have any more. But I can still dream!!

My Mum would put her roly-poly in a cloth and steam it in a colander type saucepan sitting on top a larger saucepan full of boiling water. The pudding would puff up in the cloth and be soft to eat. She would make Plum Duff in the same way, any overs were fried and served with a sprinkle of sugar. Yummy.

When i was in school, we had the best pudding i have ever had in the entire universe! It was a treacle roly poly. I have never managed to get it right at home and there are no recipes anywhere. It hurts my heart to think ill never have it again. Please could you have a stab at it? Also can you do this with vegetarian suet?

Vegetable suet from any supermarket. ATORA [the well-known beef suet] make it.

Hi from America… Tennessee!! This is a basic biscuit recipe with sugar!! So it’s like a stuffed biscuit! Awesome!! But I thought you boiled your pudding in England?

How do I reheat if make ahead. Can I put the prepared uncooked one in the fridge❤

You can indeed! If kept whole, I’d pop it in the oven to heat before serving. If like me, you’re sneaking to the fridge to cut yourself a sneaky slice, then I’d just pop it in the microwave 👌🏼 not for too long though as the jam gets hot fast 😃

Yes you do, you can use vegetable suet if vegetarian
