So many moments of him getting emotional and holding it together like a pro. Really easy to tell that when he was praising it as an everyday traditional food from home that he meant it, and was getting hella nostalgia over his past with it. Those are the best parts of cooking, and the best cooks to learn from. Great video!

Growing up, I actually ended up hating Jamaican Beef Patties not cause of the flavor but cause the ones my mother would buy, the meat was like a paste, it really wasn't appetizing. Then I discovered them freshy made like this. WHOLE different experience, and ended up falling in love with them lmfao. Now whenever I'm near the vendor I almost always pick up 2-4 spicy Jamaican Patties lmfao.

Growing up in Montreal, we had only one type of Jamaican patty : Patty King. Ubiquitous. It was decent but I always suspected the OG patties in Jamaica or the homemade ones had to be out of this world. This video has confirmed my hunch. Edit: I think it’s beautiful how Jamaicans took the Cornish Pasty, which is - in all honesty - like all British food quite mediocre, and made it into something so wonderful and delightful and gave it back to the world ❤

When he said "quality beef" he wasn't BS'ing one bit. If you use ground beef that has fat-added to it, then you'd forsure want to drain it, unlike he did here. Called many things, most times called "finely texture beef". Basically the cheapest ground beef you see, is about guaranteed to be this. Look for "round ground" or "sirloin ground" to avoid it the most. Dead give away when you break open ground beef and the middle is brown, means it's been exposed to air and is not just a fresh ground beef.

They're so amazing! They have them all over the city where I am in Canada. Like every corner store in existence has a heater box with a bunch of them. They're not the handmade ones or anything, but man. They're the perfect food, it's good for breakfast on the way to work, and for dinner on the way back, for lunch if you happen to be at a store. It's like a habit now, if I see them, I get one, almost always. Hot dogs definitely have their place still, but patties are for sure the best street food in the world!

Made these today, and enjoyed thank you! Used butter, cause no beef fat. Added carrot, and extra garlic. ( Used dark soy, sweat dark soy, oyster sauce, & Worcestershire sauce instead of Browning, and no sugar in filling.)

The hardest part to making a patty at home is its crust. If the crust isn't super flaky to the point where it's falling all over you, it's wrong. Also, my opinions on the different patty brands are Juici-great crust Tastee-Best meat Mothers-Lovely chicken patty (their fried chicken is good too) Also if you're in Jamaica you must try... A PATTY AND COCOBREAD. Even better with a cheese patty. Also chicken patties with cheese are pretty good too! -Signed, a Jamaican :)

Chicken patty with cheese? Wait mi never try that yet. I'm yet to try the jerk chicken patty from tastee. Heard it taste bad. Im not fond of mother's patty, especially the flavour of their filling. I'll eat their sweet chilli chicken anyday though. Is the chicken cheese curry?
