Mwenda is very passionate, has definatley got a pilots view on the issues at hand. However, he needs to do more detailed research. KQ has massive legacy issues from funding, operational contracts and human resource CBA's (pilots pay is a real issue, adding to those legal costs he doesnt know). The answers to KQ are way more complex than he asserts.

KQ is an aviation business that is competing with other aviators who are well financed, well managed, trusted and offering quality products, not jua kali run by rude, ugly old mubabas and vinyanyas with ridiculous make-up and attitude. Mwenda is talking from his bottom up. KQ is just one of those things that we should sell off and forget. It is not a viable business and we do not need to have a national airline, period.

This pilot's heart is in the right place. The only thing that is accurate with his example is American Airline is not goverment run, or can determine who sits on its board of directors. KQ has the best talent from pilots to counter staff and it would be a shame to see it go under. KQ is a victim of cartelism in Kenya.

He is talking about efficiency in the operations which is correct. The revenue should stop being wasted on miscellaneous expenses and the savings invested in opportunities like more airplanes to carry more cargo/people. Lean management will force profits and growth. I agree with him because if it has worked elsewhere it can work in KQ too.

His thoughts are all over the place and there were key questions to which he had NO COHERENT ANSWER ! For instance at 33:20 he was asked, AS AN INSIDER why the dreamliners were grounded - his answer revealed that at no point did he get to the root of the matter. His response was a bit of speculation along with a "convert it to cargo" suggestion. At 34:41 Ndu stresses again on the "why" - no coherent answer. At 36:02, his "vandalism" claim is questioned - at no point does he step in and address the matter with concrete reasoning, in fact at 37:19 he deflected to bailouts ! 38:06 - appeal to pity fallacy 40:30 - wasn't his task to understand these "things" prior to coming here today ?

Tell him forex losses is not about ticket sales but hedging of fuel cost eg if last year fuel cost 120$ a barrel and you hedged at$115 thinking it might go up instead fuel goes down to 60$ a barrel, KQ continues to $115 that’s the issue

SpiceFM should only invite people to talk about a profession in which they qualify. Delivering a financial report and the operation of a company like KQ IS NOT FOR A PILOT. This guy is so pedestrian in his argument. This is taking your audience for a ride.

I'm a frequent flier,.More often while shopping for air tickets....KQ always expensive in comparison to other airlines like Ethiopian, Qatar to KLM name the few...so as a traveler I will definitely go cheap & affordable ticket & safe few coins... Why KQ is too expensive yet they share close proximity to Ethiopian airlines in the North ?????

What he is describing is so true. In Japan, it is called Muda (Wastage). You have the income, customers, and opportunities but you squander them in inefficiency. Then you never understand why you just keep making losses. It's because you waste it all !!

I think that KQ should be given the right to respond to some of the misinformation contained in this interview. Not saying it’s all inaccurate but much of the financial interpretation is just plain wrong!

The UhuRuto system is about doing away with experts to head specific installations. Currently there are law amendments to change the competencies of key sector leaders to "Kenyan Citizen" period.

What does he mean "we need to audit" is he an auditor? A pilot cannot be a finance professional please.. Forex is not a problem with KQ. Debt is the problem. Debt is paid in dollars. The C.E.O is right and the pilot is wrong. This misdemeanour of thinking pilots can run finance numbers and operations is wrong. Kenyas no. 1 forex earner is diaspora remittances and exports to US in form of clothing and other products in relation to latest data from CBK in May 23. 3.All airlines made losses in 2020 n 2021 (check Emirates, Etihad etc). National Carriers are usually supported by Govts because they create more significant spiralling economic effects e.g. through tourism. 4. Titus Naikuni was a mechanical engineer, yet KQ failed, despite project Mawingu.

I heard that KQ just made its first operational profit of nearly one billion shillings in the last six years but still made a loss of almost 20 times the profit 😅 But I’m still optimistic KQ will continue to grow and soar to become the best Airline in Africa, given that it’s already continuously ranked among the top 4 best airlines in Africa!

KQ should plan to carry more people/cargo at affordable prices as the "biggest airline in Africa". That is the kind of direction we should be working towards. Emirates is the biggest airline in Africa yet they are not from here. Why shouldn't KQ strive for that? He is right !!!

Emirates is fully subsidised by government oil money 💰. They don’t have debts . Same as Ethiopia. Kq has serious debts from 15 years ago and cannot afford to lower fares it’s got to continue like that for another 5 years to turn around things n that is if oil prices don’t play up,it’s not as easy as this activist is saying. He says he can turn it around in a year!! Wot an idiot. Kenya is full of people like him very jua kali thinkers like Raila, if you give them the mic wooow best payuka ring people. If u listened to how he made it look so simple with his answers n n how he kept on diverting to other issues it tells you how cheap a thinker he is even bringing matatu economics into this 😆

This is a very pedestrian view....The ideas been described here require a level of high investments. This guys does not indicate how these can be actualized..it is all wishful thinking. Airline management is complex and there is no one fix for KQ. The Airline industry is highly capitalized industry. Most US airlines were loss making for a long time and only changed fortunes when most of them consolidated. KQ plays a major economic role in Kenya , Its value is not only KQ profits.

I doubt his statement Ethiopian Airlines manufactures spare parts for its Boeing planes. This gentleman is a Captain? For what airline.? Pan Am was liquidated in December 1991. 😂😂😂

Whatever the reasons are, he has a point. There is a serious problem with KQ and the current management is the problem. A serious problem. We don't need to dismiss someone who says there's a problem. We need to look deeper into it and see where the problem is. KQ has its flights, most of the times, full!!! Actually, over booked at some instances. KQ is the most expensive airline we have around. It almost, I mean, almost has monopoly in cargo business to Kenya. Why then, are we making these looses. Small private aviation companies that have penetrated KQ business are making profits...... That's why, much as I don't know aviation, common sense business says, we have a problem with management of the business. Hawa, ndio president anafaa kupea mambo matatu!!!
