20hz tuning is expensive to setup. First you need a subwoofer with a resonance of at least 25Hz, and that only available on super expensive brands like Sundown, DD, B2 or JL Audio.

🤯I admire your work- It's a satisfaction to watch your work in progress. Very neat and very professional also. 🍪 Just yesterday I bought sub exactly like this one, so if you'd be so nice and shed some light with three short answers: - In the Pioneers user's manual for this sub specifically it says that ideal volume for ported enclosure is 42,5 L (1,5 cubic foot), and yours is 56,6 L (2 cubic foot). Is there any specific reason for that? - I noticed that you're not using any damping material inside. Is it not necessary or it would be just too expensive for the number of boxes you're making? - This sub will not go into my car, I'll use this sub in a home theater and for music listening/parties, with car amp hooked to my hi-fi amp in living room instead. Is this enclosure 0k, or would you recommend some changes or whole different enclosure. Thank you in advance for your time, keep up the good work! Greetings from Croatia. 🙏
@chrclmnky2 жыл бұрын
Hello Hrvoje, thanks for the feedback. To answer the questions: - I opted to build a bigger box for a more deeper bass response - No need for dampening material since the box is already tuned to what I desired. - For home use, you can calculate a box that can cover all the desired low frequencies for movies and for music. I suggest to use a box designing software. You can download Box Port Design II, it is available for free for Windows PC.

Nice build, one correction thought, "transmission or T-Line box" is not same as L-Port box, T-line doesn't have loading chamber and it uses port that's 1/4 (or 1/2) wavelenght of tuning frequency (fs). L-port is just one type of bass reflex box (slot port instead of circular).

It's easy, you just do the calculations, cut the parts, glue them, put the speaker in, and your pretty much done.
@f430ferrari54 жыл бұрын
Bass Drum Flextime it’s not that simple. I used to build subwoofer boxes when I was in my late teens and early twenties. It’s tough work. Lots of dust from sawing. Had to buy circular saw and jig saw. I was lucky that my dad had many tools too. Buying the particle board isn’t that easy too as Home Depot back then wouldn’t even cut the 4x8 feet sheer for you at times. I had one piece sticking out the back off my trunk one time. You need good blades too or the saw won’t cut through if the blade is worn out. I never even messed around with ports either. Just built sealed enclosures. Not simple rectangular type boxes either. I had a hatch back type car and I created enclosures for the satellite plate speakers where they were cross firing. So imagine the angle cuts necessary. The 4 8 in subs were firing upwards. After all the work too the bass just didn’t sound good. The Polk Audio plate speakers sounded awesome. Punchy mid bass. I even switched top enclosure to 2 10 in subs vs the 4 8’s. Still didn’t sound good. Cubic feet was about 1.5 to 2 also. I decided to try and different box. Pulled out the old one and decided to have the subs fire directly toward my back this time. 2 10 inch and 1 12 inch dual voice coil. Much deeper enclosure. This one had solid deep bass but didn’t have the clean mid bass punch I was looking since I couldn’t use the plate speakers anymore. By this time picked up another car and built at angled 2 x 12 in subwoofer box. All were carpeted. New car had 4k stereo system. Nearly 1k watts. Back in 89/90. Unfortunately car got broken into. Most of the stuff got stolen. Never got back into car audio after this. Moved on to Home Audio.

Man I don’t I just thinks it’s me. When I build my boxes, I like the baffle (where sub is mounted) to not be mounted on the face of the box and to have the port cut out, example like the rear and side walls are sandwiched from the top and bottom. I alway make the top and bottom to be the overall width and depth and all the wall to be cut at the same time to be the exact height and then cut all panel to be there appropriate length. It alot easier and I feel it’s stronger

what size of box do I need to make for an 8" JBL sub??? the speaker is only 200mm wide so if I make the box 300mm wide by 200mm deep and 400mm long will that be ok?

The total Q is 1.3 !! holy crap. A good number to shoot for is .7. That will still result in tight bass. Also looks like the tuning is about 60 HZ. Lots of SPL but no good for a "Sub" Woofer. Looks like it needs to be a cube bigger & a longer port, or a smaller port will allow for a shrter length, make sure to calculate port velocity first, to avoid chuffing....& flare that sucker too

Sorry but wrong. I have the standard SVC 300w RMS 4 ohm version of this sub paired with a 240w RMS @4 ohm CEA rated amp in a custom box that’s 1.72cbft tuned to 33hz using a 3” inside diameter pvc pipe and after lots of different calculations from multiple calculators on the web and also real world experimentation I can comfortably say that you don’t know shit about sub box building. If this was a low wattage build that was in a limited amount of space with no other options then .7 would have to cut it but you would be leaving so much on the table no matter if you’re looking for SQ or SPL. The point of using a calculator and entering all the TS parameters is to come up with the ideal box, theoretically, for that specific subwoofer. Just guessing at it is what a dumbass who thinks he’s a genius does. PS Chuffing rarely happens in builds like this. It’s more of a theoretical thing that can happen but rarely does. And what you said about the port on his box sounding so fucking stupid. Once again the point of those calculators is to build the ideal box. You enter the TS parameters and you get the best ported or sealed enclosure for that particular sub.

To the OP From what I learned dabbling with Subwoofer programs, (I don't understand all the T/S specs lingo fully, I let the programs handle that) this Subwoofer can't go lower than 1.05 Qtc because you can't go much lower than the Subwoofers Qts without going crazy on the size of the enclosure. There is a hump centering around 60hz, but seems to play down to 30hz fine. In car performance might be better there too. The port velocity seems to be 20 m/s which seems fine to me. If there is any chuffing music should be playing and you might never hear it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

@@erictheboringone5292 if you go to a smaller Port you will often see that you need a longer port length achieve the same frequency. Chuffing is real..
@erictheboringone52925 жыл бұрын
TheeJoeyLee Umm that’s a pretty obvious statement about port size my dude and you won’t often see you need to make the port longer, you’ll always see that it’s needed because you have to have the same amount of port area to achieve the same tuning with different diameter ports, if round port obviously. I never said chuffing wasn’t real. What I said was it’s more of a theoretical thing because you rarely ever deal with it in real world applications. That’s the truth. I’ve been building sub boxes since 1993 and there’s only a hand full of times that I’ve heard actually “chuffing” or box fart as I refer to it. Those were all sub par builds that the builder paid little to no attention to any detail. Moral of the story is that quality craftsmanship and pride in the things you make cause problems like box fart to stay theoretical.

I got the port thing wrong actually.. when I wanted to go from a 4-inch port to a 6-inch port... the length needed to increase so much I couldn't fit it in enclosure... and Port noise isn't a Theory.. I have an 8 in energy sub that does it...and so did my Boston Acoustics sub in 1995. Only thing I'm trying to say is that this dude's enclosure is Tuned like an SPL box he needs more port length or more enclosure volume. The tuning frequency can be verified with some test tones, a multimeter and a 20w 100ohm resistor in series with the amp. But you probably already know that..... I mean how could it be possible to anybody but you could be designing speakers since the early 90s.... now excuse me I've got some port flares to make for my LLT Sonosub build
