I've recently had to eliminate cane sugar from my diet, so I've been looking for alternative recipes. I looked for a marshmallow recipe because I wanted to make rice crispy treats, and this recipe is perfect. They are so fun to make, because of the consistency of the finished product. Instead of pouring into a pan, I returned the mixture to a pot with melted butter in it and made it creamy again, then added the rice crispies and pressed into a pan. Awesome!

Can you use agar instead of gelatine and how much would you use?
@Aurasmae
@Aurasmae 9 жыл бұрын
Indeed you can, I do for most things, as I am a vegetarian. As it is, I have found that Agar Agar is more potent then gelatine, but is harder to dissolve, and if what you are thickening is highly liquid based, it tends to seep back to liquid form over a few days.

Todd's Kitchen SimpleCookingChannel Canada is the world's largest producer/exporter of maple syrup in the world. It comes from Quebec. Maple syrup is better, because it's not processed. Those look amazing! I love both of your channels. You two should collaborate on something in the future. That would be cool to see you make a dish together. Cheers!

Hey Todd, I really love your channel and you recipes are delish! ;) But I have to say your title is kind of wrong... they are NOT sugar free! You used a different kind of sugar, which sure is healthier, but there is still sugar in the marshmallows... But I do belief they are delicious ! So I will make them anyway... I´m just saying.. confusing title :)

Todd's Kitchen I know :) I would have called it "no white sugar marshmallows" or something that is sounding nicer, haha ;) I mean the calories are almost the same and in the end our body is storing it into body fat... maple syrup is healthier than processed sugar, but if we are honest, there is not that big of a difference( it also causes diabetes, gaining weight, making bad teeth... because it is a natural sugar not just sweetener). maple sugar is a natural "sweetener" because of it´s natural sugar... I´m sorry Todd.. I don´t want to argue, but I feel like you are talking things better than they are.... I will shut up now ;)

@@simpleeasycooking Table sugar comes from sugar cane. A natural plant that grows. Corn syrup comes from corn. A plant that grows. There is currently no source of sugar that is not natural, from a living plant or animal. The difference is what kind, because there are different molecular structure of sugars. Some sugars are more processed than others, but the only sweetener I can think of that isn't processed is honey, though even that is often pasteurized. Maple Syrup IS processed - the sap must be cooked down to reach the thick consistency we like.

Maple syrup is a syrup usually made from the xylem sap of sugar maple, red maple, or black maple trees, although it can also be made from other maple species. In cold climates, these trees store starch in their trunks and roots before the winter; the starch is then converted to sugar that rises in the sap in the spring. Maple trees can be tapped by boring holes into their trunks and collecting the exuded sap. The sap is processed by heating to evaporate much of the water, leaving the concentrated syrup. (Wikipedia) It isn't from Cane Sugar, and isn't processed as much as cane sugar, but it is a bit like comparing honey to syrup, comes from a completely different place, and is made in a completely different way.

ok yes maple syrup is better for you then suger but if you think you get less calories by using maple syrup instead of suger you are wrong the both have 99.9% sucrose. Maple syrup have some minerals that is good for you like magnesium, calcium and zink so yes it's better to use maple syrup then suger but not because of the number of calories.

Not to hate on this delicious recipe but you are literally using actual sugar. Maple Syrup is by content about 75% sucrose, 10% glucose and 4% fructose - all of which are varieties of sugar, meaning that maple syrup is about 99% actual sugar. However, the low glucose content in maple syrup makes it a suitable sweetener for my Glucose intolerant sister!
