Talking about number 5 I really would like to share this.. We have large agricultural irrigation systems that work totally manually, if the machine shut down for any reason you won't be able to catch it and they get to lose both water and gasoline and of course they both have their cost... I said to them hey, I will attach a small embedded circuit board to your machine and whenever something happens you will get notified with an SMS, like if it stopped, if the water stopped for any reason you can catch it up real quick and I did it and everyone was haopy.

That last one actually reminded me of one of my favorite achievements. My freshman of college, I took a class about freedoms and civil societies. There was one project we had comparing how countries ranked on certain aspects (eg police reliability, government works for the people, etc). All the data came from a website that was totally not biased. Anyways I found a way to download everything into an excel sheet and transformed it to be much easier to use. That's it, just converted things to percentiles, let you sort by whichever aspect, and put them all next to each other. When my teacher saw what I did she said if I share it with the class she'll boost my grade for the entire course by a whole letter.

My fears with freelancing are always not knowing how much to charge (fear of high-balling it and people looking at me like I'm trying to scam them), and what happens if I can't deliver? In my own projects I'm constantly finding roadblocks, and sometimes they take me a long time to get through. If I'm doing some gig for money and this happens, what could I do?
@georgescuradu22752 жыл бұрын
I’ll say this advice to myself(I have the same problem): have a healthy return policy and admit that you have to learn more. Try and charge only when the product is finished, although in any business is good practice to give some 10-20% upfront(some go up to even 50%) to motivate the person. You can also try and include in the final price additional costs such as paying “the Indian guy” to do part of your job or your whole job(the client shouldn’t know this) or try to at least not lose money if you don’t want to raise the prices, is not nice to realize how you didn’t finish the job. But if u see it as a business( which kinda is) you’ll see that most businesses run on debt in the first year, we all have to start somewhere and we all will fail miserably at first, but this is how we learn to walk or do anything else.
@GDScriptDude2 жыл бұрын
This is probably a very common fear, I have it too. I started by providing what I could easily create so was almost certain to be able to deliver.
@bonehelm2 жыл бұрын
Just tell them in the contract that if you cant deliver then they wont be charged. Also just be honest with them. If you run into a roadblock that you know will push the schedule, just tell them.
@brainloading55432 жыл бұрын
Most of the time in your own projects I assume that it takes a long time to solve a problem the way you want it to be solved. When you're delivering, always head for the simplest solution, even if it's not efficient.

Overall great advice and vid. Especially on freelancing and making a channel to get your name out there. The thing is we are not all the same - I’m sure you’re a much better coder then maybe 90 percent of developers starting out so I don’t think you can really say “if I can do it you can do it” when some may need to be tutored and not be doing the tutoring. Yet assuming everyone is at the same skill level - then there would be no demand for tutors.

Tim you are young, but you are very mature in your thinking. You also seem like you're very humble. I love your content. Thanks. If I can give you two thumbs up I would, very informative.

Hi Tim, for helping small businesses, would it be practical to code the website or just use a service like Square Space? Although the latter seems more reasonable, it also defeats the purpose of hiring you to do it right?

Hey Tim! Thanks for inspiring me with every one of your videos :) How should i build my Fiverr profile if I dont have a lot of projects i can properly showcase? Any tips would be appreciated! How long did it take you to get your first paying client through fiverr? Love from India❤️

How are web applications like Canva built, I mean the drag and drop part. I have been learning Flask and was wondering whether recreating something like this would be feasible. As a personal project.

tim: 5 people an hour a day for 150$ normal person: five times fifteen is 75, so 5*150 = 750 my ADHD brain: okay, so the all the 100s of the five 150s addup to form 500, and out of the five 50s, 4 pair up to form 200, that means 500 + 200 + 50 = 750

My ADHD brain went "5x100=500, 5x5=25, then make that 250. So 250 + ... What was the first number again?" *Sigh*
