You give the best advice. I resisted blogging for the longest time, focusing only on pitching editors etc. Since I came across your channel however, I turned a full 180°. Medium's eco system is akin to stand up comedians road testing their material on stage. Writers get to know what works, what doesn't. They get to meet their audience and that's invaluable. Hey, thanks for making this video. I joined Medium last year and wrote for a while, but I lost interest when I knew that when you live in the Philippines, you're not eligible to be in the MPP. I know there are ways to kinda circumvent this (and I tried quite a few) but nothing seemed to work for me. In short, I'm losing hope. Hey that's really good to know that importing your blog on to medium won't hinder it's reach but in fact benefit it! I haven't started blogging on my website yet. For now I'm focused on Medium and Substack. Once I can afford it I will get my own domain and blog on my own site. Baby steps. It might work. However, you should make sure that the first part is complete in itself. It shouldn't stop at the article's most important point, have a cliffhanger, and then refer to your personal blog. That will probably exclude you from curation.

You can find the tool when you click on your profile image, then go to "Your stories". In the upper right corner, you'll see two buttons - "Write a story" and "Import a story". Click on "Import a story" and enter the link from your blog. Done!

Hi Zulie, I can't help but think I've been blacklisted by Medium. Since I filled out their survey criticizing the curation process and urging it to be more transparent, all of my publications (4+) are not curated. This has not happened in the past at all. After you told me not to care so much about it I indeed have not been bothered by it as much, but still am "curious" to say the least. Unless I miss something, like there's a new requirement I have to do, I feel I have a target on my back now. It's either that survey, or maybe the fact that I quit being a member for a while... I'd like to hear your opinion on this...?

That's strange. I can't imagine Medium would do something like that. There used to be something like a curation jail, but I think even that belongs to the past. I would still assume that Medium judges story by story and doesn't consider the personal profile. I would recommend checking out the distribution guidelines again and treat them as a checklist for stories. Zulie, what if one was able to get around the "Stripe" problem but then Medium requires the writer to have a US Tax number? I mean I'm not sure how others who aren't in the US but are on Stripe's supported countries do it. Can you provide tips on this?

Thank you! I am interested in Medium/blog promotion. Is there really a difference if you write first on your blog and then post it on Medium or the other way around? I am asking because, for example, some publications want only unpublished drafts, and you can republish elsewhere after publishing.

It depends. If the publication guidelines explicitly state that they want original work (unpublished elsewhere) but don't mention republishing you can definitely do that. But by "unpublished drafts" they usually mean unpublished on Medium because it's better for the algorithm if the story is fresh. So if they only mention that and nothing else you can post it on your blog first, set a canonical link, and publish with the publication!
