I tried running through flat chords with another guitarist at a local bar. We were jamming along great we smiled when we got to Bflat. We both took music theory at different times he was an award winner so he was lead guitar but a vocalist stepped up with a mic but then walked away because he couldn’t feel the the flat keys I was like wait we were getting there bro. It was my only chance in music and flats blew it for me lol. I practiced this stuff for hours and hours shred I wish I could make sense of it all and put it into something useful that’s metal.

The guitar can really do any key easily if you use barre chords or their simplified sibling, power chords. That’s one thing I really like about guitar over piano-no black keys, all frets feel the same! On guitar it’s about the intervals, and those are the same for every major/minor key. The one thing that I find odd are keys that force me to play the tonic chord on a higher octave than the others. It sounds better to root on the low E string, like from E to A. A key like D needs rooted on the A or D strings, which makes me want to drop tune my guitar. I haven’t figured out all the musical ramifications of this yet, but I know I like employing the low E or F as much as possible.

"What does C stand for?" Well, I think your sister demonstrates that very well ... It stands for Chopin, of course. Learning music theory isn't so much so that you don't make people's ears bleed. It's so that when you DO make people's ears bleed, you know it's because you WANTED to.

Ok, I'm pretty new to this whole music theory thing.. the relative key, does this mean you could play a chord progression with C Major and solo over it with an A minor solo because it shares the same keys? Or can you also play a C Major chord progression and use a G major solo? Just trying to wrap my head around this.

2 minutes in and I'm confused. If you go clockwise the notes are 5 musical alphabet letters away in this case C to G. But if you go counterclockwise they are 4? How is that mathematically possible? From C to G is 5 but from G to C is 4?

I’ve noticed learning by ear that reading music never really helped me understand the structure of making a good song or writing something worth listening to. No amount of knowledge brings that, only a love and good taste for music and your familiarity and comfort level with your instrument. No matter how many times I go over the circle of fifths it doesn’t help me conceptualize music any differently because I play by ear. I hear the differences, I don’t visualize them
