Wow, awesome. I don't understand what nutritional yeast is and I've never been comfortable using it. I think I've noticed that it gives me a headaches when I've eaten it. I'm so happy to have found this because more recipes require it for that cheesy favor. I had given up on finding a substitute. This looks simple enough. Can't wait to try this. Thanks for doing this video!

I made this today, but using yellow split peas instead. And it tasted like a toasty nutritional yeast and it was yummy! I will use it for topping my pasta next time I make some. ❤❤

Did you soak the peas for 5 hours and do the same procedure as the video? I would like to give it a try.

I suppose this doesn't have the same nutritional quality of the OG, right? Just similar taste/texture to it?

Reading these comments i only thought nutritional yeast for making dough and bread. Am i saddened that this substitute doesnt do that. Thought i had hope
@SQPrincess5 ай бұрын
Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast, often a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, that is sold commercially as a food product. It is sold in the form of yellow flakes, granules, or powder and can be found in the bulk aisle of most natural food stores, it's not for making bread

yea i had no idea the deactivated version was different; learn something new every day@@SQPrincess

Shall I use this to make vegan cheese, because nutritional yeast flakes is must for that
@welshrawgirl7 ай бұрын
I have been making my own vegan and raw cheeses for a few decades. I never use Nutritional yeast. You can add an unpasteurised light miso, sauerkraut, kimchi, herbs, spices, for example, and also rely on natural fermentation /culturing to add a cheesy flavour :)

Wow, for flavour, I usually add stew tiny orange lentils and yellow split peas to my plant-base Mac and cheese. Thank you very much, I believe the peas will taste better toasted. because I don't use yeast, nor eat or drink fermented food or beverages, because they deplete nutrients from our body and bones. According to experts, yeast-baked products need to sit for 3 days before eating to dissipate volatile substances.

Ok, so I finally found the yellow split mung beans and can't wait to try this. So, for the instructions: 1 cup of mung beans, 2 cups of water, is that right? And do you add oil to the frying pan? and how much salt? Thanks for this video!
@SQPrincess3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. 1 cup of mung Beans 2 cups of water, It doesn't need oil to cook, 1 tsp salt

@@kin7069 Hi, how did it turn out?
@kin70692 жыл бұрын
@@markkian8551 It turned out great! I couldn't believe that it gave it that cheesy flavor I was looking for. The key is soaking then. I didnt do that the second time and my tummy didn't like that very well. But yeah, if you follow exactly the instructions it's good. I need to make some more so I'd better start soaking them. Thanks for this recipe!

Okay I'm trying this... nutritional yeast is hilariously expensive where I'm at. Over $18.30 per pound not counting shipping, and I'm scrimping money together...
