If you exercise a lot you shouldn't try to follow a keto or low carb diet. Distance runners do a thing called carb loading before a marathon to build up stores of sugars and carbs so they don't end up consuming their own muscle halfway through the race. They'll eat several large servings of pasta, lots of potatoes, even junk food. Look at Michael Phelps. He consumes over 20,000 calories a day, almost all of it highly processed junk. Because he burns it as fuel, it never gets stored as fat or converted to muscle, tissue and bone. You have to keep things in their right contexts. If you exercise a lot you probably should find a more appropriate diet. Keto is more about avoiding diabetes and cardiovascular diseases if you lead a more typical American lifestyle that is a bit more sedentary.

I love your information! I deal with a lot of anxiety and had a very severe bout for two weeks recently. The onset came during a bad flu, and with symptoms of depression. I didn’t think to eat nutritional yeast. I’ll start taking some again. Thank you. On a side note, I wish Western Medical doctors studied nutrition for two or three years before they were allowed to be doctors. Talking to my doctors and specialists about nutrition is like trying to have an intelligent conversation with Homer Simpson.

Most doctors are ‘trained’ to be pillpushers, nothing but sales’ agents for pharmaceutical Companiex who have literally hijacked the medical system and the Hippocratic Oath. The system is rigged in that, being sick and keeping people sick is more profitable than being healthy or restoration of health with many prescription drugs being extremely harmful. . A holistic doctor trained in nutrition, alternative medicine as well as conventional medicine, is the best option although not many have such a breadth of skills. I understand too, that the glyphosphates sprayed so liberallt on crops, fruit and vegetables, not only depletes the soils on which if is grown but also is a hidden cause of anxiety and insomnia as these lethal chemicals disrupt the hormonal and nervous system as well as being a leading cause of cancer and obesity, again, through hormonal disruption. Also the fruits and veg grown in this way, are themselves depleted of much nourishment due to devastating damage whilst growing in such soil. We all need to be much more aware as to the devastating impact of such damaging glyphosphates which are literally poisoning humanity, wildlife and the soil which is the essence and source of life itself.

Wow, Dr. Berg, so many of the symptoms of B1 deficiency are what my elderly mother experienced in the last few years of her life. :(. The Assisted Living facility kept saying she had dementia but I knew it was a nutritional issue. And the food they served was high in carbs and processed items. I did give her liquid B-complex vitamins when I would visit and I could often get her back to normal with large doses of B-complex. I also discovered that biotin did wonders for her mental state and could calm her down from screaming to perfectly rational in 10 minutes. (I think that was related to undiagnosed UTIs and the urea cycle not working properly.) Anyway, for your readers please don't underestimate the importance of B vitamins, especially in older people who are probably eating a deficient diet. Blessings.

All my life (now 55), I have had 3 of the symptoms you listed for B1 deficiency, legs feeling thick when walking up a hill, lightheaded on standing up (way too often, even now, though not nearly as much), and lack of hunger. But what does not make sense is that I always had super mental focus. I could learn most things quickly and easily, especially if it's nothing abstract, which was always a little more challenging. I have been eating nutritional yeast sporadically for a few years now, but unaware of the things you mentioned in this video. Now I will pay attention to them, and am keen to try using it to calm my mind when it's overactive at bed time. It never actually bothered me much because slow breathing, and purposely not worrying, always seemed to work, even though it sometimes took a while.

Nutritional yeast is highly beneficial and it’s NOT like beer yeast or brewers yeast that is live yeast. The process of making and drying preserves high density nutrients in a easy to absorb form. I’ve used braggs and recently frontier brand…they make a Mexican flavored one like nacho flavor. Can’t remember for sure. Dr Berg - could you do a segment on how nutrition affects emotional well being? I have long believed that people who suffer from PTS (and pets) could benefit from your videos. If lack of B1 for instance can cause anxiety, perhaps recommending it to people with PTS may help. I fully understand you can't cure emotions - they take time but one thing I know from experience in helping people with trauma is that some people quit eating healthy, they stop caring for themselves and they turn instead to drinking and other things. Pets that have been badly abused and neglected also suffer - I rescue from shelters and have been able see really quick and big changes by simply providing a nutritional diet, exercise and loving home.

I'm pretty sure the pound of it that I bought has been fortified. My morning pee has been bright yellow ever since I started adding it to meals. The hard part is finding foods that you can add it to without messing up the taste of the dish too much. So far I've found soups, oatmeal, sauces and heavy dishes are best. I've ruined a few dishes by adding nutritional yeast and changing the flavor dramatically. Between the 2000 mg of ascorbic acid I add to beverages and the tablespoon of nutritional yeast I add to meals throughout the day, I've never felt so energetic and clear when I wake up each morning, at least since I was a teenager. Even my chronic sinus issues are nearly gone now.

Hi David, if it has only 1 ingredient "dried yeast", it is not fortified. I had the same question and did google research to find that if it lists other things in the "Ingredients" such as vitamins and minerals, this means that it has been fortified!

I bought some and realized it has high amounts of B9 (Folic Acid) despite only listing "Dried Yeast" in ingredients. It also cites other chemical names for B vitamins like pantothenic acid so it got me concerned. I'm not sure the ingredient list is trustworthy to know if the yeast is fortified or not.

Im in recovery (addict/alcohol) , and through my years of research I discovered that B1* /thiamine is a pretty important vitamin when it comes to alcoholism. I knew alc depeleted B vitamins as a whole, but B1 deficiency is almost always present in alcoholics. It's been in a first line of treatment in detox for years (and supplementing for those not yet detoxing) and to mitigate development of Weirnecke syndrome ! wow I doubt I'd be alive even if I'd followed the "healthy" SAD. Nutrition absolutely affects me not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. I could go ON about that lol but I'll stop . Knowledge is a beautiful thing!

When I first started my keto journey, I ate nutritional yeast on my food. I later stopped after another keto coach said it messed with hormones. But, I do think I am defiant in b1 and have many of the signs you described. I will try nutritional yeast again and see how I feel. I have been thinking I needed a test to see my vitamin levels anyway. I lost a lot of weight 4 years ago and then gained some back even continuing low carb, but the weight was not coming off and I just felt bloated and uncomfortable. Ihave been doing your advice on acv as I was drinking it everyday, when I lost weight the first time. I am losing weight again and feeling better. I am not holding water like I was. I tried the kale, blueberry, kefir drink to help my liver. I was concerned over how many carbs the blueberries and kefir have, but I tried it anyway. It was good although seems to be more than 1 serving. I appreciate the information and I hope I can get back to a healthy weight while healing inside.
