I finally decided to make my own oat milk since it's so pricey at stores. I followed this recipe but used a cheesecloth, and straining went much faster (only a minute or two). My hand got cold squeezing it though. Store bought oat milk tastes better to me personally, but I'm going to experiment with different flavors/additives.

Thank you, I love your simple comprehensive explanation. From now on I have only Oat milk. Quickly made, super fresh and costs less than a quarter than the ones from the shop. I still added 2 or 3 tbs Coconut Cream. You won't taste the Coconut, but it gives it a milky flavor.

You should strain it with the fine mesh strainer first to get rid of the bigger bits that clog the cloth then do a second strain through the cloth.

Love your energy! and great explanation, good pointers on mixing time and filtering it. Will never buy oatmeal milk again after realizing how easy it is to make it at home and how delicious it comes out. Better then regular milk too by the way.

I think straining would be easier and faster if you strain the oat milk through the fine mesh strainer first, and then strain it through the cloth. I've seen other recipes where people recommended washing the oats before making the milk (put the oats on a strainer after soaking them for 10 minutes, wash until the water run clear, then make it as usual). Have you tried it?

BTW I used a coffee filter and it worked great! But first I strain it through a fine mesh strainer to get rid of most of the "chunks". If I use the coffee filter first it gets jammed very fast.

Soak the oats at least 15 minutes before blitzing. That reduces phytates. Also, double the oats for more creaminess.

Yup, it can take quite awhile to strain. But the more you strain the less potential for the “homemade oat milk slimy texture” that can happen sometimes. So take your time.

My oat milk turned out beautiful. I used sugar and honey only for taste. But quick question, it still tastes very oaty like grain taste and smell. Any way to combat that?
@rb4964
@rb4964 Жыл бұрын
I think that's why he added maple syrup, vanilla, and pinch of salt, as these optional ingredients help to cancel out that oat grain taste and smell. Adding a date is also a good alternative to maple syrup, for a more subtle sweetness.

Use less water, try 3 cups instead of 4 for each cup of oats, and reduce the amount of maple syrup and vanilla by about a third, or add a small date instead of the maple syrup, it's a bit less sweet. Adding a few cashew nuts or a rounded teaspoon of cashew nut butter will also make it creamier.

@rb4964
@rb4964 Жыл бұрын
He said one cup oats to four cups water. The measurements don't have to be exact. In the UK, cup measurements are slightly different to US cups, but it doesn't matter in this recipe. For a creamier milk you can use less water.
