I often do objective markers to get myself modelling again after a dry spell. Since objective markers are never the same unlike painting men, they are very entertaining and never monotonous. They can also be fun little things to make as little gifts to gaming buddies especially if they are personalized and help describe a previous battle between the two of you. :) Sorry, been commenting a lot on your channel lately. Work as been slow. haha

Great video. One of the things I used to make my objective markers is pieces of crystal. On a couple of the bases I use a small spear of amethyst, on another it is a polished agate. I got these at some tourist store for pretty cheap (I think it was $5 for a couple of pieces). The purple color made it look like some magic shard - all I did was add a little grass and some small rocks around it.

I found your channel yesterday and I must say I love it! Lots of very useful advice and I really like your approach to films. I hate all this fast and quick "minute" style that most youtubers present and that makes your materials so much more enjoyable.

+MacGregor I have gotten responses from viewers in the past saying that my videos "should be shorter" but I like to explain things and talk with my viewers too much, so these videos aren't usually too short. I try to make my 'Uncle Atom's Pro Tips' videos a bit shorter, but they're usually very specific. Thanks for watching!

+Vitruvian Goblin From a very new 40k wargamer, I am trying to understand why and where people are going when their done with 40k? sorry but I am new to table top games. Trying to understand.
@goblinking2012
@goblinking2012 9 жыл бұрын
I guess lots of us older gamers have been playing 40k for years and are getting frustrated with GW for various reasons (lack of transparency, codex-creep, increasing prices, lack of support). As for where we go, I feel we're living in a golden age of games at the moment. Thanks to kickstarter, e-commerce, KZbin and a renewal of smaller games companies, we have the chance to experience new games with innovative rules and great minis. Also, 40k has one of the highest buy-ins of all games. There's a move to smaller model counts and table sizes which make it easier to get into something new. Take GuildBall which is soccer-meets-axes. The rules are free to download and you only need 6 minis. Why NOT give it a go? Don't let anyone turn you off 40k if that's what you like though. It's a hugely popular game with great fluff, and if that's what your mates are playing then fill your boots! (sorry for the long answer UglytruthG, keep on gaming)
@UglytruthG
@UglytruthG 9 жыл бұрын
Vitruvian Goblin I like your answer. It explains a lot. I can see what you're saying by the way Citadel paint get shuffed in your face while there's much cheaper and better stuff out there. I have no friends playing 40k, but the fluff won me over eventually. I am gonna do 40k, even thou there's people holding a monopoly over here, I feel quite determined. Thanks for explaining, think I understand Atom's choice a bit better too now. Regards

+UglytruthG +Vitruvian Goblin Yes, I played 40k before, but I switched to other games with rules that interest me more and a smaller model count so I can actually finish my warbands without it taking years. It's just personal preference. Thanks for watching!

As an Infinity player I am kind of amused by this, but that's because I am spoiled for choice. Infinity revolves around so many different objectives, ranging from beacons and boxes to computer terminals to tech-coffins. There's a ton of modeling opportunities! I got several Spec-Ops kits to get the spare weapons to make custom panoplies, assuming I don't feel lazy and just put them on the crates.

Nice idea using baking soda for your bases. My pet material is all-purpose filler (I believe you guys call it spackle). You can just trowel it on thinly, and it adds a nice subtle texture which looks great when you drybrush it.

there are lots of medieval and such worlds in the imperium if im not mistaken, could be papers from one not-so-advaced world haha. Still look at today. Computers everywhere, and look how common paperwork is lol. Wouldnt be surprised if the imperium of man in the 40 millennia still used paper haha. Great idea though, to make story-ish markers for objectives. Gonna make some since im getting back into the game, maybe i can find some old leftovers from the years when i collected minis as a kid/teen. If not, nowadays most armies come with so many extra components, its not even an issue haha.

Tip for anyone wanting banners that doesnt have any lying around: -get some plasticard (i use a for sale sign that was £1 on ebay), - cut it to shape - melt it with a lighter (dont burn it, doesnt take much heat) will warp itself into a natural bannery shape - link to mine: iliketocolourred.tumblr.com/post/132167686864/custom-evil-sunz-banner

I understand that if you just have stuff lying around that this is useful, but to buy stuff like this and not be using it for the game it was intended for is just not smart money any more. You can get so much from 3-D printing so easily. Yes, I have a 3-D printer, but so many people now have them that you can always just pay a few bucks and get a ton of stuff that can be used for objective markers. You can also specialize into whatever you want to match for objective markers. I am getting so excited to see the market for this expensive stuff getting finally wiped out. Yes, you can make your terrain look just as good as the purchased items if you know what you are doing.
