I’m always astonished how gorgeous you manage to make your projects look without sacrificing functionality/usability. Also, props to those shots of Porto, they’re so beautiful, it makes me want to move there!

Saudações do Brasil.

Борщ TV me, too! I live in Porto for a yr and a half from July’88 - Jan ‘90 and always wanted to go back. Then I found this channel a month or so ago and love how she starts each video with different views of the city. Then getting to watch her skills is better than any movie I’ve ever seen. Well maybe with the exception of Shrek!

I used to live in São João Do Estoril, and really miss Portugal in general. I have visited several times, but always loath to leave!! 😁 Thank you for the great tutorial of this peg board..I feel semi confident I can do it, as I made a composite board one last year without too much swearing.. 😁
@pierrec15906 жыл бұрын
Because your holes are so precise, you could even glue the shelf on the peg, after flattening the portion that touches the shelf. Very classy work, I love it.

Friendly tip: since you are using your bench hook with the pull saw, you could move the backer board a bit towards the middle. Should make it easier with the pull saw, and still let you use it with a western saw. And nice pegboard!

I saw someone on another channel who had a ready-made jig that attaches to a freehand drill. It essentially makes it into a drill press. I'm going to have to find one!

Looks great!! Altough three years old, maybe you can answer the following: what kind of paint are you using, and are you happy with it? can you use normal wall paint? Or should it be varnish or lacquer? Wall paint at least is quite cheap, so it would be great! Cheers, Peter
@GetHandsDirty3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, this was a commission so I don’t really know how well it is holding by now. I believe that wall paint will work fine honestly. But applying a clear waterbased varnish on top would make it a lot more scratch resistant. We have some paints around here that are meant for both walls and wood, maybe you can find something like that in your area. Even if it isn’t meant for wood…it should still stick to the wood :) my most recent furniture build was painted with wall flat black paint. It works. Not an amazing option but it works.

Another option is to level the pegs up to the depth of the pegboard and doesn't need a piece of wood to hold the shelf in place. You could even go another level deeper and make a slight indentation on the underside of the shelf where the peg will sit with your router and a flat bit. Alternatively, leave the pegs round as is and make a rounded indentation on the underside of the shelf, where the pegs would sit on the shelf matching the radius of the pegs. So, the peg kinda sits a fraction INTO the shelf itself. You could even make pegboard caddies for your workbench area. ;) It is a great idea with heaps of room for expansion and finessing if need be.
@jakeouvina95436 жыл бұрын
Nice detail to add a french cleat! That way the pegs can go deeper to provide more support when hanging heavy things. But how do you avoid the lower part of the board from swinging? Would you add a strip with the same thickness of the cleat?

Cool projects! The only thing I missed (maybe you didn't film it) was a spacer block on the back at the bottom the same thickness as the french cleat, so it does not lean back against the wall.
@GetHandsDirty6 жыл бұрын
I haven't put one and I get your point but I don't think this will tilt towards the wall because the french cleat locks the vertically, doesn't it? The angle can't be broken, so the object will always be hung parallel to the wall. That's what makes sense in my head.
@mowcius6 жыл бұрын
With the weight of the unit and the items on it, it won't hang vertically without a spacer. See Frank's video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3TSXmZrhJiFntE If the unit didn't angle enough into the wall to touch it, then it would also end up super bouncy.
@NataschaYT6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the reference video, I didn't understand the french cleat and the spacer you were talking about. Now I want to try this method of hanging a board :)

What kind of plywood do you normally use ? It looks so perfect where it is layered
@FlorentPlacide5 жыл бұрын
For everybody : don't forget to add a piece of wood of the same thickness as the French cleat at the bottom of the panel, in order to make the whole thing straight, otherwise it will lean.
