Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I have ONE good inlay and a lot of failures but I really want to try again. You mentioned that the start depth plus flat depth should be equal to the pocket depth which is great to know which I don't think I did in the past. With the numbers .02" & .18" is that a pretty static formula? Does it vary slightly depending on the bit or maybe the design? Thanks again for the great insight!

That formula shoudl work with almost any bit

Nicely done. Have you tried the V Carve inly tool in V12? If so, how does it compare to the system you have been using? It seems to be pretty cool the way it creates the plug and the pocket. But I'm curious how the numbers work out. Thanks Doug

Hello, fantastic video! I have tried your system and numbers which work perfectly for me. I have dialed in the right TBN and it’s geometry. But I’d love to know your cutting steps. Do you do your clearance pass or the vcarve pass first when doing the male plug? Thanks again Chris

I do what ever has the bit set up in the machine first LOL. Less steps.

Great video! I pretty much mimic what Broinwood does with both his + and - sides and it's always given me good results. This is great as it's a lot more informative and personal. Hope that makes sense? Nice work.

@@GearheadDaily He talks about the size of ball nose bit he uses, along with the gaps of both the male and female inlay. He has it down to a science, to the point that when I tried it the pieces just seem to fit REALLY well. Not too snog and not too loose.

is there a big difference if I use a 5.4 degree bit instead of 6.2 degree to make inlay?
@GearheadDaily
@GearheadDaily 2 ай бұрын
No, but just make sure you use the same bit for both procedures.

Thanks for the follow up video brother. One question. I've been attempting to do inlays using the method and bit you've demonstrated with maple and walnut. Walnut being the female side and maple being the male side. When cutting the maple (male) side I'm experiencing tear out and chipping and the plug is ruined. I'm thinking this may have to do with feeds and speeds and/or use of a clearing bit. I'm needing some guidance as to how to cut clean plugs. Thanks again!

Great video. Thanks. I use vectric to. Can you take a screenshot of how you set up your bit ( in the tool menu) I’d really appreciate it. I think some of my setting are off. Thanks Chris

In your first video you say (and show on screen) a start depth of .18 and cut depth of .2. This time you say starting depth is .02 and finish is .18. Which is it? Thanks for the content
