Something I've noticed which people tend to downplay and which you've emphasized on in this tutorial. Those accented layers might seem subtle but they add a lot of value to the layer they're being put on top of. This not only makes it more groovy but makes the layer feel more complete.

@@DowdenProductionAcademy sorry, one question: do you tune all your percussions to the root note of the key or try out different notes of the key that your track is in?
@DowdenProductionAcademy3 жыл бұрын
@@syedbukhari6578 No worries at all! It depends on the tonal weight of the drums. Usually hats don't need too much tuning, if at all. But sometimes they do! I usually pitch every drum up or down a few semi-tones to see if they fit better. Simple answer - Yes, tune your drums to the root note or in a scale that works most of the time to ensure they sit well in your music :)

Thanks for doing this, love guy j’s productions! How come you layer hats and everything rather than finding one right sample from the start? For example you took 2 rich hat sounds and filtered the richness out. Why not just do it with noise or find 1 sample that fits? I’m a novice mate so forgive my ignorance!
@DowdenProductionAcademy2 жыл бұрын
No problem at all! Even though I EQ out some of the sound, I still felt that it added depth to the track. Even layering and removing some of the information can and usually still does at more to the sound since the sounds are definitely different, even if it's slightly!

Do you start a track like this from a 8 or a 16 bar loop? With progressive tracks, there are so many ever evolving elements that come and go and I find it hard to make it not sound loop'y. Would it be better if I did the drums first and then crafted some melodies and one shots on top of them once the drums have been arranged roughly?
