I found this premise very interesting. Years ago I put a campaign together in which I gave the characters actual (costume) gems & coins for all the treasure they found or earned. Each player had a small cloth bag and they were required to actually pay (with these props) for the things they purchased from merchants. It gave the encounters a weight of reality and gave their actions more meaning. Instead of just altering a paper entry, they had to part with something they had physically acquired...
@duncanevans89374 жыл бұрын
That so smart! It makes us player think more about saving our currency because it’s an actual thing we can hold like you were saying

these would be great for other things, like a symbol slipped to the rogue by a cloaked figure in the tavern, or a royal seal gifted to the party as a mark of the kings protection

I feel the jade and granite coins would be better if you actually set the stone into the coin.

+Wyloch's Crafting Vids I looked up jade coin, and most of them were intricately carved circles of jade. What about just doing some carving with the wooden circle and then painting it with a forest green and a lime green dry brush?
@JeffDrennen8 жыл бұрын
wow very cool. i would have never thought of that. a lot cheaper than the fantasy coins you buy online.

just found this video. I had a region where there was functionally no central government, but in the largest settlement, there was a gambling house who's tokens SOMEHOW could not be counterfeited, and that was the currency. Little stone disks. The owner became a very well liked NPC, and it turns out they were a mature (read: could control their Gaze) medusa and the reason the tokens couldn't be counterfeited was because they were ground up medusa victims (usually counterfeiters) pressed into the disks.

I've always been a fan of the idea that mortal souls are literally used as currency in various planes of existence. You could easily simulate that with a coin or stone with a ghostly face painted on it.

Awesomesauce, got a few ideas of my own. The marks remind me of a currency they used in the original Palladium RPG. They were the same shape, but made of bone with a hole punched in the corner so you could carry them on a string.

I think there is actual errata on planes currencies. Planes with higher magics and items have more valuable, or more condensed currency. So a celestial "copper" level would still be worth like 100 or 1000 gold. I really like the arcane mark idea.

Really like the idea of these kinds of game immersion helper objects. Do you have other ideas & projects like these? What’s been your experience using tokens like these? Tend to work better for short story arcs or well enough for larger campaigns?

How did you end up actually using the physical coins and things at your table? I'm a huge fan of integrating more and more "feelies" into my games and am definitely going to make a bunch of fantasy currency now, especially if I can figure out how to actually use it at the table.
@WylochsArmory8 жыл бұрын
Made a couple for each player and just gave em to them next to their character sheets. Perhaps you could place one on an index card, upon which they write how many of that coin they are carrying.

These are very awesome for references but seeing as my players in the past have accumulated over 50,000g each, I just dont know how i could pull this off on a scale of being able to replace just marking currency on paper and instead using aesthetically pleasing props instead.

Perhaps a single bar of jade is worth 10,000 gp. So they have a few bars of exotic material in front of them. Like a 100 dollar bill versus a 1 dollar bill
@genmasaotome35038 жыл бұрын
Could easily set them up like $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.. :) where gold is $1... and the other kinds are representative... of the other bills
Fun fact : UK 20p and 50p coins are heptagonal (although they don't have green gems in them, sadly!)

Nice video idea about your various specie for gaming, but if ya don't mind my saying, your beer-swillin' intro wears thin after a VERY short time. Not that I dislike beer--on the contrary--but watching it as an intro to your gaming vids, well, it's just very "off-putting." Your ideas and mannerisms don't really go along with beer drinking. You're a step above alcohol consumption, if ya know what I mean. You're more classy than drinking beer while wielding sharp tools and setting an example.

Noted. Maybe I'll mix up the format in season 4 (rest of this season is already pressed). Basically, a few second after I decided to start the channel, I took sip and I guess decided to include it, as the channel is an amalgamation of my usual crafting sessions, including that.
