To be honest, it's not that easy in my opinion. I'd say I take decent photos now after 3-4 years with my camera and I'm yet to sell a single print or stock picture, even though I uploaded them on multiple sites. NFTs are also dying already. And if you're a beginner, even if your're good or very good, nobody is going to pay much for portraits either. In the end it's just a picture and everyone can take a more or less similar picture with their phones mostly. The only money I made so far was due to a wedding planner recommending me for wedding shoots and without that planner I probably wouldn't have a single job so far, even though I have a website, insta, businesscards, fully filled google/maps profile with sample pictures, prices, logo, everything included, even easy online bookings. Without a decent following you're not going anywhere these days, only if you have time to grind 24/7 which isn't my case due to my fulltime job, or if you're really lucky.

You have to believe in yourself and your work. If you do this people will see you different. Website fine, Insta fine. But in the end it all comes down to you and how you are selling yourself.

@ ah come one, that's such a generic phrase. "Just believe in yourself and you will succeed", if that worked I'd be rich by now lol.

I did not think Pierre is sharing this as "easy things". These are some options to evaluate and see which one you like the most or things that you probably didn't even think about. After starting anything, you will have to confront a lot of new challenges, i mean: selling NFT's is hard if you don't create an appropiate collection that create interest in people (and you have to promote it); Selling stock photos is hard if you don't made good commertial type photographies; portrait is hard to sell with a good price if you're not possitioned as a good portrait photographer (and if you think that anybody its capable of taking pictures like you do just with a cellphone and no knowledge, you could not sell any photography to anyone, never, i mean, if you dont believe in your product who else would?); and going out looking for clients isn't a everybody's thing. You have to choose your way, and be constant and patient, but doing it well, "just do it" isn't enough.
@jforester72 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you dude. I've been doing photography for over 6 years and I've only ever sold one print that entire time. Selling prints just isn't a good way to make a buck in photography, especially with websites out there like Displate where people are just stealing photographers images and selling them for much cheaper than the photographers do. The average person has no idea their buying stolen images. Really the only niche in photography these days that's still making good money is weddings, and even more so wedding videography, but even weddings are slowly on the decline too.
@brandblue89802 жыл бұрын
i would actually buy one of your prints in person. of course it depends on timing. just bought 2 prints from someone i met at one of my favorite places. of course i am a photographer so i can empathize when people like or even love your photography but rarely buy your prints or if at all. the person i bought the prints from, invited me to a free show so that helped. yet i bought the 2 prints cause that's what i could afford & i liked the prints. i will go on a limb to say he might have even given them to me for free if i didn't have the money. i believe you will make your first sell when you least expect it. or at the very least give one to someone who actually cherishes it & they will be the energy needed to make your sell or the very least gain great grace

Consider this: I’ve visited many photography galleries by some really amazing photographers and despite many visitors, rarely do I see anyone buying prints. This is the same at various art and craft shows where some incredible prints are displayed but almost none are purchased. Although, plenty of people have an Annie Leibovitz or Ansel Adam’s book on their coffee table or shelf. Wedding photography being the other exception. It’s pretty obvious that the nature of photography is infused with a bit of egoism. Not saying it’s good or bad… it just is. Many people would rather spend thousands of dollars on camera gear, camera bodies, lenses, etc. and go to a particular destination to take the photos themselves rather than pay $50 to few hundred dollars for an amazing landscape print that some great photographer spend considerable effort and time to capture. The real money in photography is selling camera gear (e.g. Sony, Canon, Fuji, Panasonic, Nikon, etc) or photography tutorials, LUTs, etc. to people.
@maxparkes5852 жыл бұрын
I think as Pierre said, the person who buys your prints are likely not going to be some random stranger who just came across your work. It's going to be the person who has been following your work, really likes one of them, and connects to the photograph. I don't think the target audience is necessarily a photographer - rather a person who is just interested in a particular field that you capture.

Nothing in life worth having or doing comes easy. I think how hard it was just to get a new camera and leave 1974 and join 2020,( when I got my new camera and an Adobe account). Why would it be easier to make a living with that camera than it was to buy; and all those lenses. It is like a band you see. In youth many desire to become rock stars so, we picked an instrument and learned to play it. In fact you spend your whole life mastering it. Then you fall into companie with a band and you realize that it isn't about your instrument but your communication skills and the degree of engagement you hold for the effort that will make or break you. So many places to fail. So many weak links and maybe you are one of them. In photography there is me and my camera and I will figure out how to turn a buck or I wont. I can not blame the bass players drinking on my failures now by crikey. All I know is: I will have to work far harder than I do at trucking if I want my camera and film dreams to be realized. Thank you for these tips, I will exploit the hell out of any one I can.
