I did a rice treatment a week ago after researching for a while. I used the rice water from boiled rice, placed in a glass container, and let ferment for a day and a half. I used it as a rinse, letting it sit on hair for 30 minutes. My hair was super moisturized and also my wash and go that day was slightly more stretched out. My coils are usually super tight and I have usually have about 90% shrinkage. So I was impressed!

Your commentary near the end of this vid regarding the pristine environment of the Yao women was so beautifully stated. Having realistic expectations of the efficacy of the rice water while living in a different kind of environment is key.
@joycebrooks22537 жыл бұрын
I have been using this method for more than 3 years and it really works. However, I have noticed that it was more effective on my natural hair than on relaxed hair. I returned to relaxers because my new growth on average was .5 to 1.5 inches per month. My hair is really coarse and thick, so I became very impatient and lazy. I always use the fermentation process because it produced better results. My hair stays shiney and soft for up to three days. It also protects my hair from heat and styling damage. Thank you for posting this because this is my absolute favorite.
@Kaye_Venice8 жыл бұрын
After watching a few documentaries about the Yao women, I decided to try it and model my method after theirs. I wash, boil and ferment the rice for a week (in one of the vids, the Yao women fermented the rice this long; KZbinrs I've seen do it for less, but I'm following the Yao); therefore tasting it is out of the question lol After fermenting for a week, boil it to stop fermentation and use 2 bowls to rinse my hair and catch the runoff and rinse it through a few times, let my ends sit in the water for about a minute, then let it sit covered for about an hour and then rinse and I don't DC afterwards, just a leave-in and protective style. I've been doing this once a week for about 6 weeks now and it has ****************COMPLETELY**************** turned my hair around! I had serious damage and hygral fatigue due to excessive steaming. I experience massive shedding and breakage for about a year now and NOTHING was working. I even considerered BC'ing again, but after using this rinse method, now my strands have elasticity and have bounced back, shedding has dropped down so much, it's amazing. I now only shed the normal expected amount; I would say even less than 100 strands a day, at least it seems that way. It's so simple, minimal, EFFECTIVE and cheap; FRW is my holy grail now.

I started using fermented rice water after watching this video. (BTW, I ONLY try a new technique if @GreenBeauty has done a video on it. Your research is solid and you aren't just going after trends in order to get more subscribers. Love this channel!) So, I rinse my organic brown rice, place it in a jar, and cover it with filtered water. I forgot the next step of draining and discarding the rice, so I put the whole thing (rice and all) in the cabinet for 3 days. It smelled awful--but it was REALLY fermented! :-) After draining the rice, I added a few drops of rosemary essential oil, which helped the odor immensely. I added 1/3 of the rice water to my DIY rasshoul clay shampoo. The other 2/3 rice water, I used as a rinse before I added conditioner. MY HAIR WAS SOOOOO SOFT!!! I did all of this in the shower without sitting under a plastic cap. I've done this method twice and I can already see my hair is shedding less, the frizz has minimized, and it just feels so healthy and strong. My goal is to do this each week, or every other week.

sheenamccarthy24 The easiest way is to purchase rice flour and add hot water, or you can do it old school and pound the rice into flour first, or use a good blender like Vitamix. We rarely use it because it's like a clay mask it's messy and hard to rinse out.

Hi...I started using fermented REGULAR (NOT ORGANIC) white rice water in September 2017 when I found an article about 80 year old Asian women's long black hair....and I was fascinated... As of today February 2018..my hair has grown...not a lot..but it's a remarkable difference...I'm 62 yrs old..with short silver thin hair. I kept it cut very short knowing I will never have hair down my back... but then.. I realized I was balding on my crown...like some men..I had hair around the back and sides but the top was balding... so I panicked....did some research and I found rice water and gave it a shot....I now have some length but still thin...when I add hair pomade (I'm old school)..along with hair food..coconut oil..Cantu moisturizer and gel... I get some volume..so I'm cool with that.....it beats looking like old men with comb-overs..lol... so..for the skeptics... the rice water really works!

When I was little, I had extremely long hair. I remember my great aunt used to give me rice water to drink on a daily basis so I’m wondering if it had contributed to my hair growth in anyway. The reason being that, during my teenage years, I cut my hair-all of because I was tied of trying to tame it in those days. Eventually, I wanted my waist length hair back and try as I may I have never been able to grow my hair again. Just so you know, I’m biracial with 3b, 3c, 4a and even some 4b hair. I think I will try drinking it in conjunction with rising my hair with it.

I put mine in a spray bottle mixed with a little rosemary oil, sweet orange oil and organic apple cider vinegar and just mist it all over my hair. It's great for skin too ! My hair is super shiny, soft, SMOOTH and never gets tangles. You can even spray it so the hair is saturated and leave it in a shower cap for a couple hours, it eventually dries and doesn't smell sour in the hair so you don't need to rinse it out unless you want to. Also the nutrients and protein of rice water stays in the hair for a few days even after washing. ❤🌿

I ten put a plastic cap on my head for at least half hour then rinse my hair thoroughly with warm water then with cold water. My hair looks and feels great. I sometimes leavr the rice Inthe water overnight and then strain it and use the water a day after. It works well for me.

I used the rice water as a prepoo. I don't usually prepoo, so figured I'd just add it in there. I like my routine to be as simple as possible; the least amount of steps and products necessary. I put some rice in a jar, topped it off with warm water, then left it on the counter for a day. Then I moved the jar to the fridge until i was ready to wash my hair again.

I have used both organic black rice that sat for 2 days and plain white rice that sat overnight (both boiled and non-boiled). Both work well and the results were phenomenal, especially when I added rosemary while it fermented, then stained. My hair was shiny, curls defined, and it felt stronger but moisturized. I would not, however, use this as a leave-in because rice water can leave the hair dull with a dry/coated feeling. The beneficial "inositol" from the rice will stay in the hair after rinsing. I've noticed a great improvement with my hair using this method and my styles come out beautifully. I'll note that part of my winter regimen involves a fenugreek seed spray as my daily leave-in (seeds soaked in water) while using the water-only wash method. I'll do a 2 or 3 strand twist out using only castor oil to seal my ends and I'm good to go for 3-5 days or until I do my water-only washing again with the rice water rinse and fenugreek leave-in. Sometimes I'll alternate weeks doing either the rice water and green or black tea as a rinse. I'm thinking of using ginger tea one week, but for now I just drink it daily. 😊 #happygrowing everyone!

Rice water is like my holy grail of hair treatments, it has significantly improved the quality of my hair & makes it much more manageable. It contains B Vitamins that have greatly improved my hair & contributed to hair growth. I simply boil some water, put some (organic) rice in a bowl, and cover it with the boiled water. I let this sit for 2-3 days, (once I let it sit for a week b/c I forgot about it) and then I strain & use it. I use it both as a rinse & as a leave in. The smell is pretty intense, so I've learned to use essential oils to mask the smell, (rosemary, peppermint & lavender are the most beneficial) and it works fine. I highly recommend it!

I use a rice water rinse at least once or twice a month. I let my rice water combo sit on counter for 2-3 days. I then place in refrigerator for a day then strain the rice. By this time it is very potent. I apply to scalp and hair after conditioning my hair. My hair loves protein. I have seen about 1/2 - 1" of growth. It also appears to be stronger. I saw your video on the garlic and onion recipe and plan to try it sometime in the future.

@GreenBeauty / I do the fermented method. On wash day I stop the process by boiling the rice water with apple cider, essential oils and curry leaves or Amla fruits/Indian gooseberries. It leaves my hair very soft

I fermented my rice water. It definitely reeked in smell. My hair did not retain the smell as I conditioned it for about 10 minutes after. My my hair oil has tangerine essential oil, so no smell for me. This is great because I am a heavy sweater so stinky stuff in my hair is definitely a no no, normally. My hair felt really soft and moisturized afterwards. It was great. Idk about growing results right now as my hair is in marley twists currently. I will try to remember to update here though if i notice growth changes. I am just looking for healthier hair right now. I will also be treating my hair with the rice water even in my twists. Oh and my skin afterwards was fabulously soft and brightened as well. Definitely adding this to my regiment. Thinking twice a month for now and will increase or decrease as necessary.

I've performed this rice water rinse on my hair, and have noticed that my hair feels very soft and moisturized after doing so. I fermented the water for about 5 days, and my experience has been great so far. I'm going to continue to do this probably two weeks out of a month. Thanks so much for the detailed information on this!!

Hi! I have been using fermented rice water rinses in my hair for the past few months and I love it especially for this summer my hair has not been as drying as it has in the past. I do the 24 hr soak method I don't boil it. I have tried both rinses and for some reason I find that the boiled kind after awhile leaves my hair dry but sticky probably due to the extra starches leaving the rice due to the heat while as the soak leaves my hair not dry and sticky. I also use it as a spritz mixed with aloe vera juice and leave it in the fridge and when I come back from working out in the hot summer heat its refreshing and keeps my dry ends remoisturized.

Just did my second rinse a little less than a week ago. I decided to try it after watching your video and I am so glad I did. This, along with controlling the ph of my products with aloe juice, has had a tremendous impact on my hair. Right after the first rinse with rice water I could feel the difference. My hair feels soft, yet resilient and I can definitely tell that my hair has more slip. Even after a regular cowash I can still feel the difference the rice water made. Thanks for your videos!

Aha! thanks for making clear that this is essentially a protein treatment! Well, I haven't quite used it properly, but it makes my hair soft and breakage is tapering off. One week. But the first vid on rice water I saw was Steph Arizona and she puts it on before shampoo, let's it sit then washes out. This video clarifies the confusion over preparation!! Thanks Green Channel.

I'm trying it! In Malawi it is common to eat soaked rice as a snack - basically the wash method you describe, but we throw out the water and chew on the rice! So now I can have my soaked rice and use the water to rinse. Nothing wasted :-)

Hi, I plan on trying the rice rinse method. Yes indeed, the Yao women have 6 feet long hair. I discovered a different tribal women in Africa (Chad) called the Basara Arabs, have 6 feet long hair too using herbs .... Try checking them out maybe you can incorporate your search in any of your videos. Love your channel 😍

i made sticky rice for sushi and egg rolls and decided to pour the rice water from the medium length rice cleansing process into a container for easy use (organic sticky rice, also known as "sweet rice") I've known rice water to act like a face toner so this is sort of a 2 for 1 kind of deal I suppose. 3 hours after applying it in mist form on my hair, face, and neck everything including my oily t zone is evened out, soft, sooth and my face isn't dry or oily in the least (I have combination skin of dry to oily)

I tried to follow the yao method. I rinsed 2 cups of rice, then put it in a pot, added orange peel from half an orange and poured 3 cups boiling water over the rice. I stirred until cloudy and then drained the rice into a container and repeated this a second time (using the same rice) and let it ferment for 24 hours. I like how it makes my thin fine hair feel. I got approximately 6 cups of water from 2 cups of rice. I use this as a rinse.

Hiiii..... I have been using rice water for 2 weeks. 2 to 3 times a week. I use fermented boiled rice water and I felt the difference in my first wash. My hair is a bit frizzy, but now it's managable. I find fermented boiled rice water more good than the other options for my hair. I don't know how others think, but I really love it. Thanks for the video.

Hi guy's, This really works. I had bought every hair product that I could afford. Not that they didn't work, just not at the rate of this method. The only way that I would not use rice water risne, the growers stop growing rice. Anyone with any type of problems should give this a try.

If you put orange peel in the water while the rice is fermenting, it will cut the smell. I love doing the rice water treatment: i would ferment the rice with the orange peel for 2 days, mix the rw with yogurt and hair growth oil of my choice and some castor oil. I drench my hair with the mixter wrap my head with a ceran wrap ( 😞 hope I spelt that right) and a towel for an hr or so then i wash my hear as usual. I would do this once a month and switch between reg. Wash/ co wash. My hair is wonderful and growing. Your hair may feel like hay bit once you moisturse your hair and let it dry you will feel the difference.

I used a combination of white and brown rice, and after one rinse, i noticed a difference in the amount of breakage. I keep the hair after each detangle and wash to track the changes, and I went from a breakage of 8 to 4 after one rinse. I'm convinced! I par-boiled the white rice (thicker consistency) strained the water, and soaked the brown rice (water consistency), and fermented both for 2 days; and cooked and ate the rices as usual, no wasting here!

Thanks great video, appreciate the information on the methods of preparation as I used to think one method was better than the other and the science behind the benefits. Been using fermented rice water on my hair and as a facial toner for three weeks now and honestly I can a see a difference. My face appears smoother and my complexion appears much more even. My 4C hair appears to retain moisture for longer and it's easier to detangle. Will use this forever! One day, I'll experiment making my rice water using organic rose water instead of plain water and see what happens! Very soon, we'll see hair and beauty brands coming out with their own versions of rice water.

I don't use organic rice, I just use rice and it works great, I use rice on average 2 times a week so i rinse my rice a little then again rubbing it together then I put in container and in the fridge i do this for a week or 2, its pretty fermented by then, on wash day I boil with a lemon and some green tea or mint tea, rose hip tea any kind that has some benefits to the body and/or hair then I let it cool down, it don't smell to great but you rinse it out and after adding your moisturizer its fine, after I wash, cond/ deep cond. my last rinse is with the rice water let it sit for 5-min while i gather all the things I need to most. and style then I rinse not completely but mostly. I most. and style as usual, from the time I rinse my hair feels so soft and it stays that way am going on 10days and HAVE NOT had to re-moist my hair, AT ALL!. I have type 4a/b time to wash again but my hair still feels so soft, from the 1st time i did it, it worked well, I was stunned and surprise been doing it for 6 weeks now and I will continue too.

So I do the ferment and boil method. I had damn near waist length hair but then I was like hey I want highlights and a deva cut. Nothing went well and I was so frustrated with the results I cut my hair to my ears 😂 anyways it was very dry and stringy even after the cut... I came across rice water like "what the hell I'll try it" It has helped so much i even use it on me and my husbands face (we both still break out like we 15 😂) however since rice water and lavender oil my hair and skin look lovely and now my hair is past my shoulders and curlying tightly on its own 😍 so please try it you guys!
