Im obsessed with salsa. Even though Im not mexican, and love mexican food, I got a recipe for this retired floridian restauranteur, and its the best. Your is a little more complex in flavor, which definitelly will make me try it, but there are a couple of strokes of genius (stupidly enough I never thought of using the food processor and I always dice everything by hand, lol). PS THANKS for adding the cilantro and lime. Its a must.

Nice to learn to make salsa in the food chopper unit. no waste of the tomato juice. I live in rural western Canada and tomatoes are very expensive in winter and spring season. Good to know canned whole tomatoes can be used in place of fresh product during the off season months and when traveling in an RV as refrigeration is not required.

I make a number of different types of salsa. The one I make that is similar to this one, I steam the tomatoes, roast Serrano chilis over the burner as well as an orange bell pepper. While everything is still warm, I add all with some cumin and fresh lime juice to the blender. While still warm, I pour it into a bowl with freshly hand chopped cilantro and green onions. I feel the warm ingredients help the flavors to meld together, especially when adding the hot tomatoes to the blender with the cumin. I don't add any salt because I don't want it to make the salsa watery. I add salt as I serve. Once cooled, serve. No garlic in this one.

Once my herbs are more mature, I’m going to try out your recipe. I haven’t had them years (sadly), but my dad was given 2 family salsa recipes (tomatillo and a spicy red) from a Mexican couple he worked with. These recipes were passed down for generations and are just phenomenally delicious.

You use the exact same ingredients that I use for my salsa, except that I roast all of my vegetables first, either in a cast iron skillet or in the oven. I roast them until the skins is black, and then add all of them to the food processor like you do with the remaining ingredients. It really does add another level of flavor with that charred skin.

There is a cantina in Texas that has a salsa called Sweet Rita. I cannot replicate it! It doesn't have any fruit in it either. It definitely has sweet onion and I think it may have some green bell pepper. It's a great mix of slightly sweet and medium heat. When I go visit friends and family I always pick some up, put it in a mason jar and bring it back (to Arizona), it never lasts two days, everyone loves it. Have any recipes or ideas for a "sweet Rita" recipe? Thanks for all the fun videos and great recipes. We've tried many of yours, we enjoy them all but your cupcakes have caused some serious addictions around here.

What I would recommend, is that if you want a spicier salsa, do not remove the stems and seeds of the jalapeño. If you want a smokier salsa, then char the vegetables in a hot oven before blending it.
